Well it's been a lot of work but trixbox 2.8 is out the door. We worked hard over the last week to clean up all the last remaining small bugs. trixbox 2.8 is very stable and running well on our test machines.
If there is anything else we missed please log it to the bug tracker and we will take care of it in the next release.
New in this release
- Asterisk 1.6 and DAHDI This is a change from the older version of Asterisk. You can check out all the changes on the Digium site. We updated the setup-pstn script to work with DAHDI or zaptel
- latest CentOS kernel - this will make installs on newer hardware easier.
Any know problems with this release?
- Well we never got FOP working. I have been told the latest SVN version works with 1.6. We will look into this for future releases
- oslec - We did not get oslec into this release. This is a high priority for future releases.
- HUDlite was designed to work with Asterisk 1.4 and will not work with trixbox 2.8
New 2.8.0 Release added to trixbox.leadmon.net..
Just noticed this was up on the site..
The new official 2.8.0 image has been added to the tribox.leadmon.net archive
You can access the images vi rSync, FTP, or HTTP.
Info on how to rSync is in this thread:

Oh, great news. But since my Trixbox 2.6.2.2 is working properly, I will wait for sometime.
Thank you for all your great efforts,

Good stuff to try
I have been waiting for the trixbox CE to support Microsoft Exchange 2007 UM integration without middle gateway for a long time. I will try it out to see how easy is to get this to work.
Upgrade from v2.6.2.2?
Can I upgrade from v2.6.2.2 to 2.8.0 and how?
There have already been a
There have already been a few posts on getting Exchange 2007 working. It seems to work well.
Upgrades are tricky because asterisk 1.4 and zaptel must be removed and replaced by Asterisk 1.6 a DAHDI. We are working on an upgrade script. It should be done soon.
Sources
Are the sources for trixbox 2.8 available? I have the latest ISO installed on a test server but need to compile the chan_sccp-b module sources?
BTW the exchange 2007 integration works great...took all of 10 mins to get working :)
HUD
So HUD Lite doesn't work with tB 2.8. Does that mean we can finally expect HUD3 support, sales and licensing?
And of course... Sangoma drivers are in here right? :-)
source codes and new modules
yes, I too am wondering, where are source codes? Is there public source repo?
also when are new modules, endpoint manager and backup?

Its very cold here.

chan_ooh323.so doesn't load in my installation of 2.8.0 CE
I've a thread over in the H.323 forum, but it doesn't seem inappropriate to post a problem with the 2.8.0 TB CE installation. I had been experiencing the same problem with the RC1 and RC2 releases, but didn't sweat it since the release was still in beta.
Now, I would like very much to go live with the 2.8 version (which is working very well with both Exchange 2007 SP1 UM and the Exchange 2010 beta), but I really need the H.323 to work so I can interface with the pre-existing Avaya environment.
I've not done any updates or changes to the kit as contained in the ISO. I've configured the h323.conf (and also a ooh323.conf, to be safe), and get the following logged in /var/log/asterisk/full:
These lines appear every time that I restart the asterisk service or reboot the PBX machine, so I am fairly confident that the configurations are being seen and triggering the attempt to load.
Am I to recompile the chan_ooh323.so module? Or are there other options?
Exchange 2007 & 2010
Can you please link to the best posts / setup instructions to integrate with Exchange UM?
I agree this is definitively the number 1 reason people will want to swtich over to this new trixbox version.
How to Upgrade?
Hi im running trixbox ce 2.6.2.2. How do you upgrade without downloading the new iso, burning it, and re-installing it?
Cody Campbell
chan_mobile does not load in 2.8
It shows in /var/lib/asterisk/modules but when you try to load it from the Asterisk CLI it fails to load and puts the following in /var/log/asterisk/full:
[Jun 20 22:26:56] WARNING[5189] loader.c: Module 'chan_mobile.so' was not compiled with the same compile-time options as this version of Asterisk.
[Jun 20 22:26:56] WARNING[5189] loader.c: Module 'chan_mobile.so' will not be initialized as it may cause instability.
[Jun 20 22:26:56] WARNING[5189] loader.c: Module 'chan_mobile.so' could not be loaded.
So anybody got any ideas? I've got everything else working like I want but I need chan_mobile to get bluetooth trunks to work from my cell phone.
Found 3 little problems
I'm testing TB-2.8.0 in a very small office. I set it up last night and this morning all telephones work fine.
Only 3 small problems:
1) If I type "amportal stop" at the console, it says:
STOPPING ASTERISK
Asterisk ended with exit status 0
Asterisk shutdown normally.
Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)
Asterisk Stopped
I checked in '/var/run/asterisk/' and there's no sock or pid left, so I guess it tries to switch it off twice.
It doesn't effect anything, but it's wrong.
2) In "System Status" of the web gui I still see "trixbox CE current release is 2.6.2.2" and "System Status Version: 2.6.2.3".
Only at the bottom I see "v2.8.0 ©2008 Fonality, inc All Rights Reserved" which is the right version.
It doesn't effect anything, but it's not nice.
3) No call logs at all. If I try to see the calls chronological hystory clicking on "reports" it says: "No data found !!!".
I checked mysql and the database 'asteriskcdrdb' is empty.
I tried to record a call setting both "recod incoming and outgoing" on always and it works perfectly.
I tried to insert "load => cdr_addon_mysql.so" at the bottom of 'modules.conf', but it didn't help.
I didn't change any default password.
Thank you very much.
And the 4th bigger problem....
I also found out that Announcements dont' work.
I can record a message from en extension, listen to it and save it (called it "prova2").
But then when I set an Announcement on that recording and divert incoming calls to that Announcement (for example: "the office is open from 9 to 12,30 ecc. ecc."), all incoming calls ring and then fall down as soon as the message should start.
"/var/log/asterisk/full" says:
[Jun 22 14:15:41] VERBOSE[24118] logger.c: -- Response timeout set to 1
[Jun 22 14:15:41] VERBOSE[24118] logger.c: -- Executing [s@app-announcement-1:6] BackGround("SIP/0302056783-b7bfe188", "custom/prova2|nm") in new stack

But the file "prova2.wav" exists and it just looks like that Asterisk cannot read .wav files.
So I tried to change recoding format to alaw, but results are the same.
I hope that it's not just me who did something wrong and that I'm not disturbing the Developers for silly problems.
Thanks again.
Quote: But the file
Is this a typo? The file is called prova2.wav and not prov2.wav, is it not?
Sorry: It is a typo
I corrected it.
Funny: as I don't make enaugh mistakes in English, I managed to make one in Italian as well !!
Don't know about the best...but its the one I used and it worked
I found the UM integration pretty straightforward. I used the instructions I found here:
http://www.pronetindy.com/exchange-unified-messaging-and-trixbox-28-howto/which I found using the Google search string "trixbox CE 2.8 Exchange UM".
I hope it works as well for you.
So.....I guess I will need to recompile?
Not being sure of the time frame here, I guess that I will have to re-compile the chan_ooh323.so module and hope for the best.
Hopefully, there will be some sort of re-spin down the road to make the less used modules (I am thinking of the reported problems with chan_mobile.so, which seem similar to my own) congruent with the rest of the build.
Found 3 little problems
I'm also having the same problems, most annoying CDR. But apparently the FONTALITY team doesn't give a damn about putting out a broken product, what a shame!

problem with 2.8
Hello guys,
I install new trixbox 2.8 on a vmware machine. I setup 2 sip extension and than i log 2 xlite softphone for testing. no trunks and no route. if I call *43 from any of 2 sip extension the call start instantly but, for some misterious reason, if I call the second extension from the first one the call start after 15/20 seconds.
I not understand. so I install a second vmware machine with trixbox2.6 and i make the same configuration. obviously the call from an extension to another start immediatly.
There is someone that can help me? I don't know where I have to look for solution for this strange problem.
Sorry for my bad english.

H.323 now working or not?
So if I understand everything here correctly, there was a problem with the asterisk addons for 1.6 and they are now in the repository for updates? So H.323 should now work if I run the updates?
I guess it was bad timing on my part I just decided to try trixbox on Sunday and started with 2.8.0. I require H.323 because I need to interface with 3 Avaya IPOffice 403 units.
OCS functionality: add patch to asterisk 1.6
I`m working with a trixbox 2.6 and asterisk 1.6 at the moment.
I established a configuration with Office Communication Server R2 and Asterisk 1.6.
To got this work i had to patch asterisk 1.6 to ignore sdp version of the sip packets.
https://issues.asterisk.org/view.php?id=13958
I want to ask if u can add this patch to trixbox 2.8 asterisk? Perhaps i`m wrong but i think it hasn`t implemented yet.
Thanks in advance

Can I be able to use FAX Machine
Hi xperts;
I'm with TB 6.2.1, I tried many time to fix the code for work my external fax machine, but couldn't succeed, is the new version TB2.8 will work for external fax machine without hazel.
kindly advice, I really love to use my fax machine with trixbox and kick out the bell canada from my office and go completely voip ;D

Apologies for the delayed positive feedback, but here it is...
As suggested, I did a yum clean, then a yum update.
The chan_ooh323.so module now loads (and I can move back over the H.323 forum).
However yum does throw some errors, which I reproduce below. They don't seem to affect my kit functionality, but I thought it worthwhile to let you folks know...

Tried yum clean with no luck.
Also in the GUI we see an error when you go to the system status page - we're using FireFox no problems previously on 2.6.x

Any hints much appreciated
Great job - looking forward to proving testing then having a migration path from 2.6 though it would have been nice if Sangoma was included in some way seems odd that Rhino gets an install script but Sangoma doesn't
Thanks

yum updates now broke for 2.8.0
Same problem as Gavin.
Last week I bought up one test machine and everything worked pretty smooth after the yum updates as recommended.
After configuring things here and there trying to get H323 to work in 2.8.0 with my IPOffices, Asterisk went into a constant crash/reboot cycle. Asterisk, not CentOS. Obviously I changed something I should not have. I have not bothered with any back up yet as this is only a test system with a few extensions.
So I reinstall 2.8.0 form the CD and do the yum clean all and then yum -y update and I receive the same problem as Gavin.
If I go to system recordings
If I go to system recordings and try to record a file from an extension the process fails when I hit *99 to listen to the recording. The system answers and say press 1 to listen to the recording. I press 1 and it kicks back saying "I'm sorry that number is not valid" so when I try to save the recording with a name it kicks back no recording.
recording a .wav with audacity and then uploading it works fine, but is not helpful in the long term
yum issue
I am also having the yum issue about missing dependencys.

Same as syadnom and Gavin
I am also having the same problems as syadnom and Gavin (both problems as Gavin has reported). This is a new install and yum clean all was run.
any of the developers looking into this?

Hi Connextis
We are also using Trixbox 2.8 with OCS 2007,
Can you please provide the steps to patch chan_sip.so without disturbing the Trixbox 2.8 installation.
I think this would be the best way to fix the "ignore sdp version" instead of upgrading the asterisk to 1.6.0.11 and breaking the whole trixbox.
Please provide the patching steps, I never patched asterisk before.
regards
Naren
2.8 yum dependency problems - solution not fully tested
Disclaimer - you do this at your own risk and should not be done on a production server
I had my thinking hat on this morning and decided to take a closer look at this
If you are getting errors such as this
file /lib/modules/2.6.18-128.1.10.el5/dahdi/dahdi.ko from install of kmod-dahdi-linux-2.2.0-4_trixbox.2.6.18_128.1.10.el5.i686 conflicts with file from package kmod-dahdi-linux-2.2.0-3_RC4_trixbox.2.6.18_128.1.10.el5.i686
A search on Google for a way to force Yum to move forwards pointed me to a method which I've modified for this problem.
rpm -e --justdb --nodeps kmod-dahdi-linux-2.2.0-3_RC4_trixbox.2.6.18_128.1.10.el5.i686
Some explanation is needed.
--justdb will only update the installed lists in the rpmdb, and not remove any files.
--nodeps will not process dependencies. I normally consider --nodeps to be evil as it can seriously break things by forcing their removal.
yum will never do the equivalent of either of these operations because yum doesn't force things. You only need to force things if they are seriously broken. In essence it looks as though an RC rpm has not been updated in a way that allows yum to upgrade it.
Okay so now that is sorted do yum update again and you will see that it needs to install
2.2.0-4_trixbox.2.6.18_128.1.10.el5 as a dependency hit y to go get em and success
At this point I have not tested much - the warning errors on the first page of maint when you login doesn't go away so that's not fixed. I can confirm that echo test worked and I could make a call so I suppose that is what a pbx is for ;)

Where is the SRPMS for this release?!!!!!!!
how to edit voicemail in 2.8.0.2???
The new voicemail e-mail is a tad unprofessional. It is written like a letter and no one seems to like it's quirky nature. It also doesn't provide any links or directions to access voicemail.
I used to be able to edit the voicemail but now since Trixbox 2.8.0.2 uses minivm.conf, I can't seem to find the right file to edit to change the voicemail - and there is no documentation that I know of to do so.
Any ideas?
upgrading from 2.6 to 2.8
On June 18th, 2009 andrew says about upgrading from 2.6 to 2.8:
"Upgrades are tricky because asterisk 1.4 and zaptel must be removed and replaced by Asterisk 1.6 a DAHDI. We are working on an upgrade script. It should be done soon."
Is the script ready? Where can I find it?
Is FOP still unsupported?
Thanks
Gilberto
FOP is supported. We never
FOP is supported. We never could get the upgrade script to be 100%. your best option is to install a new version on a different machine.
