trixbox CE 2.6.2 - RC1

Just in time for Christmas fun!

trixbox CE 2.6.2 - RC1 is now making its way around the sourceforge mirror sites. If we can get some testing in over the holidays we will make this a final release before the end of the month. Here are a few of the changes, more to be posted later:

* New Kernel (read: better network card support!!!)
* Improved CDR reports
* Bug fixes and updates in almost every module
* Updated Endpoint Manager with all certified phones
* Fixed issues with Bulk Importer
* Fixed nasty installation issue when no network came up

Please note: Rhino drivers ARE ready but Sangoma support is not ready at this time. As soon as they tell us they are ready we will make another post.

As soon as it is on the mirror sites I will add it to the download page, until then, the direct download link is:

More detail required on changes

A far more detailed change log would be appreciated.

These changes need to be detailed and enumerated.

Does it contain Asterisk 1.4.23-rc3?

Hi,

Will this contain the almost released new Asterisk version 1.4.23? If not, can we except an update shortly after it is released?

It seems we are almost always one release behind on Asterisk. I understand it takes time to make sure it works with Trixbox, but if we start testing with the RC's of asterisk, it should be faster.

As I said, I will have a

As I said, I will have a much more complete list of changes later, there are LOTs of changes to document still.

It is the current version of Asterisk, not an almost-released version.

This version number (2.6.2.x) will possibly also be the last to contain Asterisk 1.4.x. As soon as this goes into release we will start on 2.6.3 which will be based on Asterisk 1.6.

Upgrade

If I install trixbox CE 2.6.2 - RC1, can I then upgrade the system to the final release of trixbox CE 2.6.2 using YUM?
Or would you recommend I wait for the final release, since I will be using it for a production system? Thank you.

Backup

I installed trixbox CE 2.6.2 - RC1 on a test machine.
I can´t install or find the backup sections. Where is the tbm-backup package and the backup module for PBXconfig?

The release notes are

The release notes are incorrect. Rhino has a ZERO DAY driver system on the backend of setup-rhino. If you run setup-rhino and a driver is not available our system will generate an RPM which will come on line shortly after the initial failure. as always we offer full support for our hardware and we can go in and build a source based driver on your system if you need.

Kerry

All these bug fixes in almost every module, have they been submitted back to FreePBX as promised?

schmooze, there is but one

schmooze, there is but one bug fix provided by fonality, and one feature added. If you want a diff file between this release and the real thing just pm me and I will send it to you.

One of the biggest changes from FreePBX 2.4 to FreePBX 2.5 is that FreePBX now can be translated to other languages in full. Read my blog about it here: http://freepbx.org/news/2008-10-28/an-introduction-and-an-announc...

There where 593 tickets closed between 2.4 and 2.5 (note, fonality changed their branded release to 5.5, but it is in fact FreePBX version 2.5)
Look here for what was changed: http://freepbx.org/trac/milestone/2.5

Awsome! When do you think

Awsome! When do you think HUD3 will be available to try with this?
Cheers for the good work.

Upgrades???? Where are they?

Hi there whats happening with trixbox men???
Only minor minor changes....
no dahdi support, no libopenr2 support from scracth, asterisk not 1.4.23 rc and not even an approach to 1.6 in beta or devel, almost the same interface no new software or addons no new kernel (really new kernel like the latest one is .22 and almost 2 months old but not included)
Men you need a change of direction really soon, other projects free as free beer and really open sourced like elastix are beating you off from any point of view.
Where is the old trix project that everybody loved with a lot of innovative ideas every time?

Too little, too late...

That's indeed the feeling most trixbox users have had this year.
HUD3 was originally scheduled for release mid June (!).
Now, it's not even mentioned any more.
There is still no sign of integration with Exchange 2007, Unified Messaging, Active Directory, Presence, ...
Let's hope 2009 will bring trixbox development back up to speed!

I agree. Ever since trixbox

I agree. Ever since trixbox 2.4 was released everything was going the oposite direction

You can only complain if you

You can only complain if you actually $UPPORT (Yes, thats a $$ sign).

The software is being developed by Fonality/Trixbox and being offered FREE of charge!
You are MAKING MONEY / SAVING MONEY by using it!!

Yet, you complain like they havent done enough for you!
Nerdvittles has released PBXinaFlash. Its a nice piece of FOSS - but its NOWHERE near as polished and SELLABLE like Trixbox CE!

If you are not happy with the progress of the software updates, try doing it yourself.
See what happens when you start with the Newest Cent-OS, the Newest Asterisk, and the Newest DAHDI.
Try putting them all together.
THEN:
Try to PACKAGE IS ALL UP so that it works on MANY MANY MANY systems.

Its not 123 magic - TIME to make sure things work well - that it works with Hardware (some if it paid supported hardware - but this is FOSS - someone has to pay!)

So want to see better progress..... Open your wallet, DONATE, and write on the Paypal Notes what you want.
Maybe they wont read them, or take them seriously - I do not work for Fonality, I dont know how they react.

My bet is, you donate, theyll read, and then they have an INCENTIVE to produce.

You forget what you've been given for free.

If You want to Donate to

If You want to Donate to make trixbox better you can begin by donating to the most important piece of software that trixbox use, FreePBX. Click on this link to read about the latest release (2.5) of FreePBX that trixbox use. And use the Donate button on that page to support it.

Without FreePBX there would be no trixbox.

yes I can complain!

I am supporting Fonality buy testing each trixbox release and providing feedback.
Trixbox is no more than an alpha(not even beta) platform for what Fonality is commercially selling.
They get their testing done and we get half-baked asterisk system. It's almost a win-win situation.
I complain because Trixbox hasn't had a real stable release for a long time! Each so called stable release is not even a beta.

We had some serious resource

We had some serious resource setbacks this past quarter and we have a LOT in the pipeline that you will start seeing over the next month. ISO 2.6.2 is a minor update to get things caught up, transition to a new build system, recode all of the build scripts, and much more under the hood.

We have a new endpoint manager a new sip trunk manager and updated backup module all scheduled for the beginning of Feb. I apologize that we havent been pushing code out as fast as some people would like but we have a very small team of people working on this but you are really going to like some of the new things that are coming this month.
