This is a continue from http://trixbox.org/forums/trixbox-forums/help/2621-setup-wont-loa... post but that one was getting long and didnt want to go off topic.

Anyway I haev a P5KPL-CM and using an IDE raid card and once I pick keyboard language and its probes the video and the screen changes to blue thats it, stays all blue. Never brings up the format/drive options.

some thought was my ide controller card for raid I was using, well I am now using a diffrent brand and this one is officially supported by centos and still exact same issue.

I have latest bios, have tried all settings on and off with diffrent combos in the bios with no joy.

All previous versions load and work even 2.6.1.13 works fine, but the darn 2.6.2.x series dont work at all.

Any other ideas?

CentOS will load by itself if I go install it, but this TB one wont.

Its been a few months now, so in hopes of some new help/idea.s

Just an update...I pulled

Update...

Well I found what I think the problem is, but not sure how to handle it the way I want.

It seems to be if anything modifys the MBR this version of TB wont run setup.... Well the Raid controllers modify the MBR which is how they assign the raid. If I remove from the controller and put to onboard IDE i get same results even though their are no partitions made at the time.

If I put back on raid card, remove the raid which wipes the MBR also than setup will load.

But the raid cards require to modify the MBR to work, yet this latest ver of TB wont load if its modified even though the other versions do load.

I dont want to do a software raid via TB plus not sure that it supports this in IDE mode but I rather the card/controller handle it.

Any suggestions?

Have you tried the manual

Have you tried the manual installation option?

Nope, how would I do that? I

Nope, how would I do that?

I did manage to find a way to get the dang thing installed but its more steps than should be.

I have to kill the raid and unplug the 2nd drive. Leave the first drive on the raid card as a stand alone drive. Install Trixbox. than shutdown, plug in 2nd drive, boot up and create the raid. It will modify the MBR, but it fails and takes 3 trys before it will work and than create the raid. Than reboot and its working.

On past installs I dont have to do all this non-sense. I know its not the raid card because I used two diffrent brands even.

Would still like to know how to do the manual and hope they fix this soon as if I have to reload it ever this will be a pain.

Also, you said that you have

Also, you said that you have another box that has the same card.

Can you copy paste a lspci -v -n entry that is specific to your card?

Also, copy paste a cat /etc/modprobe.conf ?

I'll see what I can find about what has changed regarding the kernel module(s) that your card uses. If I can find the problem, I should be able to fix it for the next ISO release.

if you boot the CD, type in

if you boot the CD, type in "advanced" and hit enter. this will allow you to do manual partitioning and ask you about how to install grub.
dunno it would actually help, but it is a test to narrow the scope of the problem.

I had a similar issue with my install, what i had was an onboard raid using an NVida raid, (SATA) and an IDE DVD drive. By installing SATA DVD drive i was able to do the install, what kind of dvd drive are you using?

I was using IDE CD-ROM. I

I was using IDE CD-ROM.

I got it installed though, but I had to blow away my raid, then install, and than create the raid.

Its like once you make an raid you know it will either modify the MBR or the last 64k of the drive... Well I guess this kernal or Trixbox release does not like that. Once I clear them it will install.

I was thankfully able to create the raid array without it killing the data so I am up now, but boy thats some extra work and a pain.

The raid cards I tried was a Promise and a HighPoint. Both had same results.

Now the only other thing is this release still does not have my LAN drivers and I have to manually add them. Would have thought by now its included..

I just found a fix for this

I just found a fix for this issue. I thought the issue was because of the SSD Intell X25 drive I'm using...anyway, no problems to install the latest Ubuntu. But CentOS would hang at "Loading ahci driver" and eventually report "no drive found".

so HUGE PROPS to "fakemoth" over at: http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=15720&...

who wrote, "To install CentOS (or others) with AHCI enabled in BIOS:
-start the drill
-when you get to the first screen DON't hit Enter cause we have to give a parameter to the kernel
-type: linux pci=nomsi boot and Enter

It always works."

Works for me. I've been trying for a week now to solve this install. I typed this single line:

linux pci=nomsi boot

and install just completed! :-)

I put it in the wiki

SkykingOH, glad this worked for you. And glad it worked for me also! I have 2 sets of identical hardware that I bought for Trixbox - would be quite some wasted $$ if I hadn't finally found the fix.

Anyway, it's posted to the wiki in the Troubleshooting section. Good suggestion!

for anyone interested I searched this out:

http://www.linux-archive.org/ubuntu-user/297967-what-exactly-does...

What, exactly, does pci=nomsi do?

MSI is "Message Signal Interrupts"

http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=120710

Using pci=nomsi disables it.
===========

Can this be fixed in the CentOS kernel? I'm not a developer but it seems that Ubuntu doesn't have this issue. Looks like some discussion about this re. Fedora, though I dont know what happened..seems that this is still an issue...

I didn't have any reason to try your suggestion was simply giving you props for working it through and then taking the time to documents the solution.
