Caller ID Name Service for VOIP?

Since VOIPStreet doesn't support CNAM services, I am looking for a company that will be able to provide me this service so that when I call out from my trixbox, my company name and number will show instead of just the number or in some cases, out of area.

Does anyone know of any companies that offer CNAM service that I can setup with trixbox? if so, please let me know.

Thank You

Jaysen

Just the United States only.

Just the United States only. Mainly the Portland, Oregon Metropolitan area. Regardless, I want to be able to call anyone and have my business name and number come up.

Next to

Next to Oregon:
Vitelity.com: Denver colorodo. Great rates. You need to manually activate the service per did
Bandwidth.com: Maryland and California. Expensive but awesome service

Canada: I'm not sure. I know Vitelity has a few Canadian rate centers but I'm not sure if you can register with a Canadian address

I checked out Vitelity and

I checked out Vitelity and it looks like I would need to switch my entire service from VOIPStreet to Vitelity to take advantage of the CNAM service. What I was looking for was a third party service that I could just add on to what I currently have.

I've heard I need to register my number with a provider for this to work.

Ok for VOIP you can use thrid party
google it.
CNAM services + asterisk

BUT for pots line I am sure they still use the old lookup method so the provider will have to have the data in their database for PSTN to pass it.

Yes this is it!!

This is exactly what he is looking for. In fact, it is why I was watching the thread - I am also a VoIPStreet user. From what I read, the other providers that do name are really doing this anyway because of the expense of true name callerid. This is much better in that is has multiple sources and allows you to override callerid on the inbound number you wish too.

You can also use Vitelity.

You can also use Vitelity. They provide a great feature set and also offer CNAM lookups...

The OP is looking at having his OUTBOUND show, not to lookup inbound callers

so the nerdvittles stuff does not apply

One can only control the outbound CID for some calls (voip) once you hop on the PSTN network all bets are off.

oops, good point.

Outbound is a different story. POTS lines will ALWAYS be controlled by the provider. PRI is not POTS, so you can send caller ID provided you are purchasing the ability to do so, and typically CNAME is more expensive. This is why most VoIP providers don't offer true CNAME. If your provider doesn't, then I don't think there is much you can do. On my outbound through VoIPStreet the name was always correct when calling my house phone, but the house phone is provided by my cable company, and I suspect they are using a name lookup company to deliver it. My DTA is built into the cable modem.

Very few Voip providers

Very few Voip providers support outbound CID name. Vitelity claims they support it with select DIDs- but when I asked them to set the CID name for me, multiple times, they said it went through on their systems. Few weeks later, "sorry, our provider cant help us with this anymore".

Providers who resell Level3 would support this- AS LONG AS YOU ORDER AN ELS DID

For example, Aretta.com, which I now use, will set the outbound CID name for me, as long as I ordered an ELS DID.

Level3 gives two different DID types:
LI- regular, no feature DID. Has caller ID with name though
ELS- gives you 411, e911, directory assistance listing, CID with name, Outbound CID Name, and some other stuff.
But if you are located on the western coast of united states, don't go for aretta, since you'd have issues with phone quality, being thousands of miles away. The only choice you'd have (as far as I know) is Bandwidth.com. They will charge you $20-$25 per trunk, and provide 2,000 local minutes per each trunk. They resell Level3 so they support Outbound CID name. All my clients are extremely satisfied with Bandwidth.com

Eastern US- Aretta and Bandwidth.com resell Level3. My clients are happier with Bandwidth.com. Aretta is like any other Voip provider when it comes to problems.

Bandwidth.com gives you ELS DIDs only (One free DID per trunk, 75 cents a month each additional DID)

metrostat.net wants a large deposit ($30) and doesnt work well unless you have a static ip address. If you have a dynamic ip, everytime your ip changes, you have to log onto their website and manually update the IP Authentication. This happens so often, CNAM is usually not working on my system. It will take years for me to use up my $30.

That's a large deposit????

It is quite expensive for a carrier to establish the record your record. Without $100/mo in recurring revenue it's not worth the trouble (to the carrier).

$30 is a huge deposit for a service that never works. I've had it for many many months, and have repeatedly asked for a refund, but I get no replies from metrostat. And the few times it did work, I never got the caller's name - only the city they call from shows.

It's a terrible service.
