Cheap fanless, non-moving parts trixbox server. What do you think about these specs?

I want to build a cheap, very low power consumption trixbox server for around 20 extensions. I priced out some parts and was wondering if someone could tell me what they think.

Case: APEX MD-100-C - $50
Memory: G.SKILL 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 - $30
Motherboard: ZOTAC IONITX-C-U Intel Atom 230 Mini ITX ION Platform - $160
ssd: A-DATA 500 Series AS592S-32GM-C 2.5" 32GB SATA II MLC - $85
PSU: 90W / comes with the motherboard

All of these parts I can buy on newegg.

I am most likely going to buy the sangoma USBfxo here: http://www.sangoma.com/products/hardware_products/analog_telephon...
unless someone thinks there is a better solution.

Do you think I will have any issues running this system with trixbox for 20 phones? I want to make sure I'm not buying something that will not work.

Thanks!

Nope... something I should

Nope... something I should look into? I'll go look now

EDIT: Cool little computer, but it looks like I'll need something a little more beefier. The computer I speced out is less than 400 and is more powerful.

For 20 users you only need 2

For 20 users you only need 2 phone lines? For an external PSTN gateway, I would go with a Patton 4114 that I know works. The USBfxo isn't a very popular device, mostly because its only 2 lines.

I want to make sure the ethernet interface will work with trixbox out of the box. I don't want to deal with trying to install ethernet drivers. Is there any way I can find out what ethernet interfaces are supported and what ones aren't?

EDIT:

I changed the case and motherboard I'm using. I have heard of people having a hard time with getting the zotac ethernet interfaces working out of the box with trixbox. I am now getting the Intel BOXD510MO because I have heard of success stories with this motherboard and I am getting the APEX MW-100 case because it includes a 60W external PSU.

That sounds like a plan.

That sounds like a plan. That motherboard will work fine.

On the gateway front if you like and are familiar with Cisco IOS you can pickup Dual FXO or FXS boards on ebay for $50.00 for Cisco routers. A Cisco 2600 makes a great Voip Gateway.

Did you look at Acer Aspire

Did you look at Acer Aspire REVO R1600-U910H available at your local Best Buy or many other retailers for $199 ?

Acer Aspire REVO R1600-U910H

I bought one of these from Wally World for $188 for a non-trixbox application. Very nice little unit if it fits your needs, runs both XP and Win7 pretty nicely. I did try loading trixbox 2.8.0.3 on it just to see if it found the NIC without any other effort, but it doesn't seem to have the drivers.

PBX in a Flash works fine

PBXIAF works fine, according to nerdvittles http://nerdvittles.com/?p=677
Trixbox is based on the same distro - CentOS, so it should work too.
I actually have one at home but have not gotten to installing anything on it.

The Cisco 1841 does not

The Cisco 1841 does not support VIC's according to this:
http://conft.com/en/US/products/hw/routers/ps282/products_tech_no...

The Acer looks real nice, but I was looking for something with an ssd for better reliability. I would also be worried that an Atom 230 wouldn't be powerful enough to handle 20 concurrent calls.

Acer has a slot for an SD card. You can install trixbox on it.
You can also replace the internal drive with ssd.

I would also be worried that an Atom 230 wouldn't be powerful enough to handle 20 concurrent calls.

Wasn't Atom 230 in your original spec ? 20 concurrent calls is easy if you do not do audio transcoding.
Make sure your phones use the same codecs as your trunks and you will be fine.

I know not solid state but is nice bit of kit...

... plus uses the dual core D510 atoms which are much better... or if you wanted to go down the route you're going i'd say would be fine but would use the D510 atoms instead of the 230.

let us know how it works out.

Built the machine yesterday,

Built the machine yesterday, but didn't install trixbox yet. In the process of creating my bootable usb drive. I had the machine running on the hardware monitoring page over night though to look at how hot the cpu got. This morning the tempurature was at 75 degrees Celcius. This seems pretty damn high for just not doing anything. You think I should throw in a fan?

Yea it does. This is the board: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121399

Also I have just installed trixbox using a usb flash drive with this system and everything seems to be running perfectly.

EDIT: Apparently this board has problems with the temperature readings in the bios. I installed lm_sensors and the temp is around 40 which is very do-able.

Glad to hear the system is actually running much cooler than original indications. When do you think you'll have this up running and in operation? am keen to hear how well it performs.
