Cordless phones won't ring
I apologize if this issue has been covered, but I couldn't find anything in my searches even close to the problem I'm having. I'm running the latest Trixbox CE and I have a Linksys SPA2002 with one phone line and a cordless phone connected to it. I also have a fax machine connected to the same line with an RJ-11 splitter. When I receive an incoming call, the cordless handsets won't ring, however the fax machine does. It seems that if I plug in a corded phone, incoming calls will ring but for some reason the cordless phones won't. I've tried 2 different brands of cordless phone with the same result, as well as with and without the fax machine connected. Any ideas what the problem could be? The cordless phones light up when a call comes in, so they are registering the call but they won't audibly ring; and yes, I have checked that the ringers are turned on. I'm a little lost and don't know if the problem is with Asterisk/Trixbox, or the Linksys adapter?? It's weird that corded phones ring because it seems like it would be all or nothing.
I greatly appreciate any help from anyone.
Thank you,
Michael Segulja
Well, I wouldn't have thought what you are describing is possible but you can be sure it's not a Trixbox issue. I would say the Linksys is the most likely suspect - maybe it's not providing enough ring voltage? But then you wouldn't expect the cordless phone to acknowledge the incoming call at all...
This problem is definitely an issue with the SPA2002, not the PBX. It is the ATA that converts the digital signals from the PBX to analogue, so that 'ordinary' phones or fax machines can be used.
There is a configuration page for ring voltage that can be set to match your needs. I don't have a 2002 here to direct you to the exact page, so you may have to scroll through a couple in order to find where these are, but you will find settings for both Ring Voltage, and Ring Frequency. You didn't indicate where you are located, but in North America the Bell standard is 90 volts AC, and 20 Hertz. I believe the default Linksys setting is much less, so setting it higher to 90 might do the trick. Be sure the Frequency is 20 at the same time, some are set to 25.

Thank you for the info. That fixed it! I had no idea where to look to track this problem down, so I've learned something new. It rings once and then cuts out a little on the next couple of rings, but that's OK because at least it rings enough to hear it.
Again, thanks for your help and your quick response.
