Is my 7941 phone dead?

Hi,
I tried to reset my phone with both the 123456789*0# method and then the 3491672850*# method. I am left with a phone that shows no screen and has the "headset" light on and the 2 line lights blink alternating green.

Even if I power it off and back on, it ends up in the same loop

Is this phone dead?

Thank You for any help

Probably not

This sounds incredibly similar to a 7970 that I brought back from the dead. I suggest building a serial cable to go from the phone to your PC and monitor what happens on bootup. Also, make SURE that you have Option 66 and Option 150 set on your DHCP server (trixbox, router, or wherever) and that you have a known good firmware available in TFTP.

You will of course have to set trixbox to talk to the 7941 (setup-cisco and make an extension for the phone...)

All of this info can be found in the forum. Good Luck!

Thank You - how create serial cable?

Thanks for the encouragement - I hated to think there was no hope - can you give me a head start on building a serial cable - what does it plug into? from the sw port on the phone to what kind of connector? - maybe a 9-pin?

This just means the phone

This just means the phone doesn't have any firmware on it, and it's looking for some. Do you have a TFTP server running with firmware on it? Do you have a DHCP server running with Option 66 set to the TFTP server?

solution

I had the same problem before, after pressing 123456789*0# and later 3491672850*#, the screen went completely blank.

I was thinking is unit is brick but gave it a last try by using a Wireshark to capture the Cisco 7941 output (I use a Windows XP laptop / tftpd32 with a crossover cable) I found out that my Cisco 7941 isn't dead, it is looking for a valid TFTP address from DHCPd.

I put SIP.8-30-50 in tftp root, unplug and plug back the power of Cisco 7941 and switch back to Wireshark to capture. Yes, although the screen is completely blank but it is actually reading the SIP firmware from my tftp server.
