Hi,

As a newbie I was happy with the way I was getting Trixbox up and running. All the searching and help from you guys made it a fairly easy install.

That is till I got a few Cisco 7941's.
Firstly after searching I found that people said I needed to flash them with a SIP firmware.
So hastly I found pos3-07-5-00 and pos3-8-7-00.
Then I tried to use this guide : http://www.greenwireit.com/blog/2009/04/reflash-your-cisco-7940-7...

trouble is I just cannot get it to work.
My phone is now alternating between the cisco boot screen and the upgrading screen but no upgrade.

I have setup a laptop, switch and the phone on its own network . Fixed the ip on my laptop to 192.168.1.10 as per the links pictures but still no upgrade.
Can anyone offer any advise and help me through this.

DAve.

The 'hastily' found software

The 'hastily' found software you located is for 7940's not 41's

Cisco has removed support for third party SIP. Even with a support contract it is not available for download on CCO.

Basically I no longer suggest using SIP on any Cisco 7 series endpoint.

The chan_sccp_2 module provides native support for skinny in Asterisk. You may want to look into this.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the replies. Beginning to wish I hadn't started now.
Everything had been going so well. I didnt realise how difficult it would be to use ip phones, the software phones were so easy to set up.

I had read the 7940's firmware worked in the 7941 but they may be wrong. Probably why I cant flash it.
Anyway I have another 5 of these coming so I'm going to have to try and work it out.

Is there an idiots guide to using the chan_sccp_2 module?

Thanks Digital I am also in email with Paul.

SCCP config

With SCCP you have a learning curve, but you can get there and the Cisco phones work well with asterisk. I think this thread covers what is required .

This thread also covers sccp.conf as does this one so both are worth reading. The posts in these threads should get you started.

Once you have built the new sccp module on the asterisk CLI you can execute

sccp show version
SCCP channel Release: v2 - 20090109 (built by 'root' on 'Fri Feb 27 21:22:05 GMT 2009')

The second line shows that the latest stable chan_sccp module is installed, so then you can move onto editing your sccp.conf in /etc/asterisk.

sccp show devices

and

sccp show lines

will then show what phones you have setup and what extension numbers are available.
