If you click on the package manager I get the following arroer after a minute or so.
The XML response that wasreturned from the server is invalid received:
The bar continues to scroll across the screen no packages are ever shown.
does anyone know how to fix this issue?

I like that you didn't bother linking to one of the other "6 other current post"
The following solution worked for me YMMV:
1). Edit /etc/php.ini and change memory_limit = 60M to memory_limit = 100M.
2). Save changes
3). Then restart Apache. /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart
Geez, it's only been the busiest topic for the last week. Support 'vampires' that don't even have the courtesy to read through the current posts deprive users with uncommon problems of attention they deserve.

I actually did read them, but only changed the timeout.
Changing both items fixed it.
