Recommended TDM card for Supermicro Boards?

Hi everyone,

Now that the test box is working, I was wondering what the ideal motherboard AND TDM card might be for building a dedicated server.

Kerry G recommends in his book that I check Digium's site to find currently recommended motherboards. I searched on their site and that resulted in not finding recommendations, they must have done away with recommendations? Usually we build our servers with Supermicro boards, so it would be nice to stick with these. I know little about TDM cards but I know they are important for timing and sound quality. I've noticed through searching that certain boards and TDMs combined result in strange IRQ conflicts which we would like to avoid.

Assuming we go with Supermicro, what model would you recommend? What about TDM cards? What hardware should be avoided?

The current Digium cards

The current Digium cards shouldn't have any IRQ issues like the older TigerJet-based cards did. Sangoma and Rhino cards are also both excellent choices. Avoid the clone cards as they still use the old TigerJet chips.

So the prices on all these

So the prices on all these cards are fairly high. Really we need the card for its timing mechanism and echo cancellation. This is the lowest priced Rhino card I could find. $329. http://www.rhinoequipment.com/R8FXXcard.html

Our system is purely IP with IPST we have no analog lines, we want if for the time and echo cancellation. Are there cheaper card that work with asterisk that handle the timing and echo well? Is there anything anyone knows of that is cheaper but high quality that still handles these needs?

If $329 is the lowest price for a good card so be it, but if there are other options please tell. Thanks!

I believe you are a little

I believe you are a little confused....

The first part you have correct, in that a card will help with timing; however even this doesn't seem to matter as much today as it used to with the newer versions of CentOS being used.

The second part that is incorrect is believing a card will help provide echo cancellation to your SIP or IAX trunks. In your case if you need a card to improve timing then just get an openvox card with no modules for less than $80.00. You can check with user "huebs" to purchase one. He is great to deal with and has excellent prices. Send him a PM and he will get you a good deal.
