Hello List,

Still getting acclamted with TB here. I only have at present softphones to try and it seems all of them, Regardless of what machine/desktop i am on I get pretty mild sound chopping out/stutter. Even for example if I put the softphone on hold,,,the default recording i hear chops out steadily slightly. I would have to say that it is acceptable ( to me) but I know others will grump/gripe/b***tch about it. Does anyone have any ideas on what settings to change or is this " just gonna happen" with softphones? This happens even on lan to lan calls.
My TB box is a Dell 800mhz with 256mb ram 20 gb HD. when running top it usualy shows .01 load. Do I need more soup or is there some TB.config settings that i can tweak, possibly? I'm sure there are a miriad of things that veteran TB'ers have tried here that "ends up solving the audio probs".

Thanks,

Barry

Thats not normal, and your

Thats not normal, and your configuration sounds to be more than sufficient to do the job.

1- Not using VMware right?
2- What softphone?
3- Have you done any 'codec' tweaking? or have you just left it default?

No VMWare , X Lite softphone, defaults all the way,,

dickson,

Ok,, so were would i start with codec tweaking? I'm sure I can manage to wreck something:-) I did read through the trixbox without tears.pdf and don't recall any snippets in there on codec tweaking?Does the "skipping" on X Lite , Ekiga , KPhone, and Windows Messenger 5.1 on about 5 different machines. All machines have about the same characteristics if that makes any difference. Using a Speedstream6520 router/modem adsl, going to a cheapo no name 10/100 mb switch to machines. This is something I can not debug with Wireshark, or tcpdump...:) I'm about dizzy looking at Wireshark dumps getting this far!

TIA

TB 2.2.12 ISO install

Thanks,

Barry

I was just curious if you

I was just curious if you decided on playing with codecs.

This points to network (IMO) since you seem to be having the problem facing a lot of different machines.

10/100 shouldn't matter for that few phones. In fact, shouldn't really matter with a lot of phones.

By codec tweaking, i'm assuming that you just did a default installation and are using uLaw, which is default, and is what you should use.

Something you should try is make sure your computers' lan cards are not set to auto duplex, and are locked to 100 full duplex.
