Trixbox 2.2.5 "Unable to connect to remote asterisk"

I have a fresh install of Trixbox 2.2.5, and i get:

"Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)"

But Asterisk is running well, and i can make and receive calls. The problem is that i can't stop Asterisk and i can't run the console with "asterisk -r" because i get the error all time.

I repeat is a fresh install without upgrading, installing or uninstalling any packet or module.

Any idea about the problem?

PD: [root@asterisk1 ~]# uname -r
2.6.9-34.0.2.EL

(it's a Pentium IV 1,7 GHZ)

After much reading ... turns

After much reading ... turns out that .ctl file is created by Asterisk when it runs. The asterisk.conf shows that the file should be in /var/run/asterisk directory and the group/rights appear to be fine for the "asterisk" user. Not sure why Asterisk is failing to create the file... still reading, but may break down and reload 2.2.5 from scratch and see if I broke something by updating the system after the 2.2.5 install.

Ok, I wiped the drives and installed again fresh ... the .ctl file remains missing, there is something wrong with 2.2.5 since I did not have this problem with 2.2.4

This was due to a change in

This was due to a change in our asterisk build. We have figured it out and are doing a new build.

I really like what I see in 2.2.5 and do not wish to reload 2.2.4, will the re-release of 2.2.5 be coming any time soon?

I repaired the problem after running trixbox and yum updates

The problem was repaired after I did the trixbox and yum updates.
Trixbox-update.sh update
Yum –y install tbm-GUIcore
Yum –y update

Running those updates did not cure the problem for me, executing "asterisk -r" from the console still throws the error.

This is because Asterisk is running as a service instead of

from amportal - Load up Webmin, set the service to NOT start at boot time, reboot and it should start up from within amportal as it should.

Step by step

Here's how to stop asterisk running as a service, step by step.

First install webmin from an ssh prompt with:

yum -y install webmin

Then log into webmin with

http://yourip:10000

and provide the username of root and the root password.

Click on System -> Bootup and Shutdown

Check the box next to Asterisk

Click the "Disable Now and On Boot" button

Go back to your ssh shell and type:

shutdown -r now

to restart the machine. All should now be ok and asterisk should be running. Thanks GSnover!

You guys all downloaded 2.2.5 before I announced it. You got a hosed up version. Please wait for an announcement before downloading new versions. You should be able to do a yum update to fix it or download 2.2.5a which is on its way to the sf mirrors.

Don't let people downloading the .ISO's the minute they are posted annoy you - you should be flattered - If you haven't noticed yet, the Trixbox community is fairly rabid (myself included) for new releases and updates - this is a good thing - Adminsparadise and Elastix are pretty quiet these days...

Still no update, problem persists

We did an update via the web interface on Saturday not realizing 2.2.5 was out there. We are having a couple of problems including this unable to connect to remote asterisk issue. We saw this thread Saturday and figured the new stuff just hadn't made it out to all the mirrors. However we still aren't getting any new updates and the problem persists. The Asterisk version reported by asterisk -V is 1.2.24 svn rev 79171. This matches what yum info asterisk says. Is this the proper latest version that's supposed to fix the remote asterisk issue? I've just done a "yum clean all" followed by a yum update, and it reports "No packages marked for Update.."

My Trixbox now work ok, but I don't know how it can run when we "Disable Asterisk Now and On Boot"? I'm very crazy about that.
