trixbox dial plan vs. phone dial map...

Hopefully someone can answer this for me. What is the difference between the trixbox dial plan and the phones internal dial map. For instance:
trixbox reads something like:
9|.
polycom phones read something like:
[2-9]11|0T|011xxx.|91[2-9]xxxxxxxxx|9[2-9]xxxxxx|[2-8]xx|*x.|**x.
How could I have trixbox handle all of it. Could I simply blank out the dial map in the polycom phones? Or will that just cause problems?
