Trixbox as a gateway/router

I have several remote locations with Trixbox servers that I am trying to interconnect with our 3Com NBX V3000 system in headquarters. I know the NBX doesn't do IAX trunks and SIP mode is out because of the need for the auto attendant (We need the AA and VM for ACD and Call Recordings).

I created a Trixbox server with a T1 card so that I could connect the NBX to Trixbox via a PRI. I also created IAX trunks to the remote stores on this trixbox as well. I can place calls to the remote stores from the trixbox and I can send and receive calls ok (caller id problems) from the NBX and the local trixbox. However I cannot originate a call from the NBX and have it route to the remote store, or vice versa.

I am running Trixbox 2.6.23 at most locations, including the local trixbox server.

Has anyone ever used trixbox/asterisk in this manner? I have looked through forums and websites and cannot find anything like this. I have a hard time beleiving that someone else hasn't had to do something similar for a legacy PBX.

Yes - it can be done - it is done

I am using Asterisk as a complete SIP router. I can easily connect (trunk) any SIP PBX to it along with providers and can call back and forth from any point connected.

I have 36 Trixbox servers connected to one asterisk server - routing calls in and out via 5 providers. 32 of these boxes are businesses in my town. If any call others it never goes to a provider - it just gets routed to the trunk that the DID is assigned to.

I am not even paying for multiple cnam lookups as I added a cnam database (being called an internal address book) that is checked for every inbound phone call first instead of doing a DIP. If I don't have that number (as they haven't called me before) then I use an API to make the DIP to get the number - pass it on with the call and add it to the database.

This also means I can change (as users ask) the cnam to be displayed.... so if a business owner wants his name to come up when he calls his office for his employees to know it is him.. I just put it in.

The whole thing is driven by a web gui -- you get to see the status of all your trunks and get notifications when ever one goes down..

tshaw - you could use it and all the calls between your remote stores would be free - you could also use one single VOIP account for termination for all the calls or as I do multiple providers incase one is down.

PM me if you want to know more.
