TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

Hi there Guys, I'm fairly new to the A@H/TB area.

In one of my other post to this forum ATA v TrixBox, Call Quality difference ?

Rasker replied with the zttest command, for checking the call quality of connections to the PSTN.

Which lead to this post.

For the sake of all the Newbies and others, could we have a list of some kind of all the Testing Tools / Commands that can be used to pinpoint problem areas, and a brief explanation of what each Tool / Command does.

Also, if possible, what are the factors that influence the end results.

E.G.
Ping = Testing Latency to VSP Server

Factors = Quality of ISP Connection, QoS/Packet Priorty, Net Traffic/Load, Hops, Packets Drops/Loss, etc, etc

Love this Forum, Thanks Guys.

John.

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

I second this motion -- a quick-reference list of such commands would be useful.

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

Hi,
I also think this would be a very good idea!

I'm new on this area... Is it normal that after more than one week nobody has contributed with any posts?

Where are all the enthusiasts out there?

Help please!!!

:-o

Ok for testing the Voip you would something like this http://www.bandwidth.com/tools/voipTest

I do not know of anyway of test the PSTN conncetion other than picking up the handset...

even a small pii 350 will make a single call and many connections out there only support a single call...so testing the system really tells you nothing about the call volume you can have..

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

Actually, that tool just tests the quality of your broadband connection. That's not what we were talking about -- we meant Asterisk commands to measure jitter, latency, SIP parameters, zaptel parameters, etc.

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

The OP asked

>>>>

none of that has anything to do with the server..it all has to do with your Inet connection...

there are tools to stress test your server as well,
http://www.asteriskguru.com/tutorials/astertest.html
but unless you are running something less than a p4 with a gig ram, these "hobby" users are really not going to stress the box...the Inet connection.. Yes..
that 128 k upload dsl with choke long before a box does...

even my home 800 k upload chokes way before my P4 2.66 with 2 gig of ram system even knows it is doing anything...10 ~ 15 cpu use on four calls...then bandwidth limit is hit calls start the studd..er..
No QOS on the home setup (has it just not enabled)

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

Hi

I ve just installed Trixbox to my PC, installation process has finished. Now i need to test at least by calling somewhere or getting an incoming call.

where can i find necessary info about setting up for sound driver, and another settings?

and how can i simply call a number?
(since I am always in command line, I got a bit confused about what to do)

Thank you in Advance :)

:-)

Re: TrixBox Testing Tools / Commands

Sorry I should have communicated better.

Ping = Testing Internet Connection Latency to VSP (VoiP Service Provider) Server

Factors = Quality of ISP Connection, QoS/Packet Priorty, Net Traffic/Load, Hops, Packets Drops/Loss, etc, etc
