2.2.8 throws ramdisk error when selecting an "advanced" install

Hi All,

Just trying to install 2.2.8 on my server and because I need to modify the disk layout I always do an "advanced" install. So I boot from the CD, type advanced on the CD's boot menu and it starts loading vmlinuz and then throws the following error:

"Could not find ramdisk image: initrd.imgskipddc"

Doing the non-advanced install seems to work fine however.

Anyone seen this? I have re-downloaded the ISO twice from different servers and always seem to get the same result.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Luke.

It was never designed to be

It was never designed to be installed that way but I will have Andrew look into it.

Thanks Kerry! The reason I

Thanks Kerry! The reason I need to install it this way is that in some of our smaller offices the Trixbox server also doubles as a file server. It has a 500Gb hard disk and Trixbox doesn't need that much so around 400Gb is mounted as a different volume for the staff to store files on the server.

I've been using the advanced install option since about 2.2.1 and never had any problems till today.

Just out of curiosity when you say it was never designed to be.... what was the original idea with the advanced install option then?

Thanks heaps for your help!

Cheers,
Luke.

Broken on 2.2.7 as well

Hi,

Just tested it on the 2.2.7 release as well and same issue. 2.2.6 (and all before) was ok though.

Need for IDE RAID

I haven't set up IDE RAID 1 before but I need to on an old P3 1GHZ box. I was under the impression that you had to use the "advanced" option to set up RAID1 on IDE drives. I am trying this with 2.2.8 and obviously am having the same problem as everyone else.

I just submitted this as bug...hope no one minds...

"advanced" option has worked solidly for me with 2.0.0, 2.2.0, 2.2.2 and 2.2.4. Great for RAID and great for keeping install small with smaller partititions that provide for faster backups and recovery.

The noted problem occurs with 2.2.8 for me. Have not done 2.2.5, 2.2.6, or 2.2.7 myself.

=8-)

Advance option is need! I

Advance option is need! I would like to customize in case hard disk is very large. I agree with aussieboi21. This is so basic feature.

I have used it on 2.2.2, 2.2.4, 2.2.5a. It works fine.

Once time I have install Trixbox on Server which have 2 HDD. Trixbox use first hdd for /boot only. And another is on second hard disk. That’s clear all my data (good luck it is not important data)

So. again. Advance option is need!

Did it work on older

Did it work on older versions with the SAME hardware? If not, it wont work. The script has not changed. If you do an advanced install, then untar the file from the CD and run the installer.

fix???

I think I have come up with a fix for this problem. It will be in 2.2.9 out later this week. Also for all you trixbox as a file server users: I added an option called "sataraidstore" if you install with this option it makes a 20GB partition for trixbox and mounts the rest of the disk on /store.

Yep it used to work

Hi Kerry,

Yep it used to work. I am rebuilding a server which was originally built with 2.2.3. I have downloaded most of the releases and tested them on this box now and the problem seemed to appear after the 2.2.7 release.

2.2.3 - Advanced option worked
2.2.4 - Advanced option worked
2.2.5 - Not tested
2.2.5a - Not tested
2.2.6 - Advanced option worked
2.2.7 - BROKEN Advanced option
2.2.8 - BROKEN Advanced option

Have you guys been able to reproduce it? It seems like there are a few people having this issue.

Thanks,
Luke.

Same for me

Looks like I'm having this problem too.

Thanks Luke for bringing this to their attention... I ran into this and couldn't find anything about this online so I was a bit stuck :(

Looking forward to 2.2.9 !! :-)
