Can not obtain logon/password prompt for "Packages" menu pick...

New User here... Am using latest ISO download for CE... Quickstart guides, etc. advise going to admin mode and then selecting "Packages". I am getting "downloading updated package list"... but, no joy here... error message eventually comes from local server... Some say it is a timeout issue however, I think the problem is lack of accessability to the logon screen... Do I need to enable something on the Linux box via the console? There is no upper right logon / password screen at thet Admin switch page on the GUI as is shown in tutorial materials... I am registered on the forum with functional username and password...

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated...

Same thing here, registered

Same thing here, registered but no packages access. Getting this error: "the XML response returned from the server is invalid", there is a line below that and it just says "received:" with nothing after it.

Packages no work

Exactly identical... There is supposed to be a "username" and Password dialog box under the "switch" mode link on the GUI... I can not get this box to open up... this is the place where you are supposed to enter your 'FORUM" user name and password. BTW, check to see if you have a DNS after the install in the GUI... it starts with a blank field... I thought this would help but so far, no joy...

Still looking for suggestions...

Do you have any kind of web

Do you have any kind of web content filter or stateful inspection going on in your firewall?

Stateful packet Inspection?

I too have this problem and have no stateful packet inspection on my firewall set.

I have 2.6.2.1 12/26/08 release running along side an older 2.6.1.3 release. I have no problems getting into packages after entering my trixbox.org username and password on the older release. The key might be in needing a 'password' as when you register in the newer trixbox registration form, the form asks for your trixbox.org username but it does not ask for a password.

SkykingOH, have you installed this latest release?

Are packages supposed to be a bit more "seamless" using only a trixbox.org username?

Scott, I do not believe I

Scott,

I do not believe I have any stateful inspections enabled in my Router firewall... There is no firewall in the server sitting behind the router... I tried several prior releases and they all exhibit the same issue.... I also went back to 2.6.1.i386.iso and it wouldn't identify my network adapter... so I trashed it and am reinstalling the latest release hoping a patch will solve the problem...

SOLVED!

Alrighty! I am not exactly certain which of the two fixes below corrected the problem, but...

Login to your TrixBox as root.

Part 1
1). Edit /etc/php.ini and change memory_limit = 60M to memory_limit = 100M.
2). Save chnages
3). Then restart Apache. /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

Part 2.
4). as root enter passwd-maint
5). Change this password to be identical to your trixbox.org passsword.

In double checking and changing my maint password several times, Part 2 was not the answer. Making certain you have plenty of memory for php is the key apparently. Maybe in future releases "they" will make make the default php.ini reflect this needed change. They upped the time limits in php.ini in this version from other versions anyway.

I also noted that you may have to click 'Packages' a couple of times, but you should not get the XML error.

No I have not had a chance to load the latest in a VM and take a look.

It sounds like a change was made without supporting documentation.

I have tried both of your

I have tried both of your fixes (twice) and everything else on this page and get the same error, this did nothing for me? I STILL GET THE SAME ERROR.

"can not write to cash/ouputyumAvalList.txt".

Does anyone know where this "ouputyumAvalList.txt" file lives ???????????????????

Login to your TrixBox as root.

Part 1
1). Edit /etc/php.ini and change memory_limit = 60M to memory_limit = 100M.
2). Save chnages
3). Then restart Apache. /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

"can not write to cash/ouputyumAvalList.txt".

MAC_1000

I think everyone's problem here was an XML error, "the XML response returned from the server is invalid" and the confusion revolving around the major change in accessing the Packages without a User and Password edit box showing up in the upper right hand corner of the web GUI.

I would post a new Q on the forum with your error in specificity. You may get some solutions.

It worked for me

I had exactly the same problem. I followed John's steps:
Part 1
1). Edit /etc/php.ini and change memory_limit = 60M to memory_limit = 100M.
2). Save chnages
3). Then restart Apache. /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd restart

It worked for me. Now I can see the packages. I found out that the trixbox backup module is now available in packages (#621) and I just successfully installed the backup module.

It worked for me too.

I had the exact same problem, and John's Part 1 steps worked for me too. It seems strange that the Packages App would use more than 64M, but it appears to be the case.

Thanks!

I was having the same

I was having the same problem, however after making the changes described above I still cannot get the packages. The error no longer pops up, but I just get the screen saying downloading packages and it never finishes (I've let it run for hours). frustrating!
