Hay all

When a gaming company has updates they have a page I can read that states what was updated and why. With the latest module updates is there a list of what is in the updates or what they fixed? It would make it easier to update my client machines if it was stated as to why the updates are necessary. Like is there a release notes page?

The following is the list of the ones I saw that needed updated.

I thought Fonality was

I thought Fonality was updating it's own modules now that it is owned or put into CE by Fonality. Not sure how that works.

Personally I avoid the forked version

Personally I avoid the forked version and use the real thing.
Fonality say they update their own modules but are very slow to fix bugs (if at all) ...

I asked Philippe and he said

I asked Philippe and he said they are not his they are Fonality. I can find some information in the change log information within the module to be updated.

Let's be real clear,

Let's be real clear, PBXSettings is FreePBX integrated into the trixbox "look and feel"

To this date Fonality has not contributed a single line of code back to the FreePBX product. They take the FreePBX updates and at an unspecified and undetermined interval they "patch" the modules and place them in the repository.

So I guess the answer from

So I guess the answer from both FreePBX and Fonality is no, there are no release notes and neither of us released the update. The system is so intelligent that it's updating itself. I just love this fighting between companies its so awesome for people who make a living selling this stuff.

M2Mcom, all the release

M2Mcom,
all the release notes for FreePBX are on the FreePBX site. You can get gory details from the svn changelog and a pretty good summary from the module changelog.

The confusion comes in that Fonality has done a 'black box re-branding' fork with the claim that they are also fixing bugs. They also provide no access to their process or svn tree so there is no immediate way that you can see what they may have changed from the original FreePBX code when they do their own release.

If they were to provide access to their internal SVN that would answer the question. Otherwise, you can do a recursive diff on "equivalent" versions of their code and FreePBX code, and determine what changed on their's. You can then use that in conjunction with our completely transparent and published information to determine what is different.

So, no fighting going on here. FreePBX is just in the same boat as you and all the users. We know what we released, but Fonality does not give you any access to see what they did. So without jumping through the hoops above, it's not possible to say anymore. You and the community are at the mercy of Fonality, and they seem to want to keep it that way. The fact is that requests to expose their SVN for code that is open source continues to fall on deaf ears. There must be something really scary that they don't want to expose, or otherwise ??? I don't recall them ever even providing an answer of we don't because ... And the effort to do such is trivial.

Philippe Thanks for the

Philippe

Thanks for the input. I decided to just wait on the updates and try and get a good process, for myself on how to find out about updates. My concern is that I do not and will not break my clients modules. That would make my company look bad and make more work for me. Release notes should be mandatory for updates but I will not hold my breath.

Thanks to all who have contributed to this thread. It has been a real eye opener on the update issue for me and will have to beware in the future.

FreePBX 2.5 is

FreePBX 2.5 is awesome.

Currently in RC2 ... I suggest you wait for the release and install that, but in the meantime you could install the latest 2.4 version. The FreePBX crew are really on top of module updates and you can get support on their own forums as well as here.

Philippe has even got an Upgrade module to 2.5 (and yes it works fine with the forked version on TB 2.6.1).

M2M - If you take a look at

M2M - If you take a look at the FreePBX site you can see the changes, as Philippe said there is no fighting.

Fonality has chosen to not keep enen the dev blog up to date as they had promised when the forked FreePBX. It has completely isolated trix users from the FreePBX ecosystem.

It is very gracious of Philippe to continue to help out here.

It would be a much different story if Fonality was a contributor (code updates) back into the main FreePBX project. Then some good could come of this.

Kerry keep saying "users want a stable release" yet we keep seeing issues such as this, releasing new modules to the stable repository on a holiday weekend that have defects.

Sigh.....

Personally, i've been

Personally, i've been updating all my customers to the freepbx version and away from the fonality version for a couple reasons. 1. The backup module works, and i'm finding that it is now grabbing the tftproot directory now as well. I've got very little confidence in the trixbox backup and having it even work. 2. I like the freedom to move someone to another falvour of asterisk if I so choose. 3. I see now reason to even use their version, what for? I'm seeing much more progress with the full blown freepbx, it's a waste of resources if you ask me.

2.5Rc2 is lookin REALLY good!!

So if someone wants to

So if someone wants to install trixbox 2.6.1 then move the PBX manager to FreePBX 2.4 and upgrade from there what is the best method for doing so. Fonality has not made this easy to do.

Thanks again for all the input.
