I've searched for this and can't find the answer. Please direct me if this has been covered. I have a test machine (Optiplex GX260) that I have been using for several months with great success. I want to use the computer for a different purpose now. What problems will I create if I move the hard disk to a GX280? Will it boot?

Best way is to just try

Best way is to just try it... If it doesn't work, put it back in the old box :) This is completely dependent on the hardware in your systems.

Having done this...

Having done this on a couple of occasions, the CentOS Kernal seems to adjust well to the different hardware that might exist on another motherboard.

The only gotcha I realized was the NICs did not come up right away and I had two ifcfg-eth0 and two ifcfg-eth1 files. One was a backup which contained the new hardware information which only amounted to new MAC addresses. The hardware was the same make/model.

So, that was a pretty easy fix.

Should work fine.
