Its still in the beta repo, you can install it from there. I am having Andrew move it to the release repo.

I installed from there, but there is no backup module in the GUI (tools section) on the trixbox admin webpage. Only 24k tbm-backup is this ok?

I have installed the backup

I have installed the backup module and have it working, but I have a dilemma. I was running 2.6.0 and have an old backup that I have uploaded to my trixbox machine so that I can restore the setting. What directory should I copy it to? Will the older backups work with the new backup routine?

Just a head-up (I'll go post over in the Bug Tracker), but the backup module does not show up in the web page if you are using https to access your box. I'm sure it's an easy fix (I've posted similar code to correct the issue before for the CDRs). Just though you guys should know.

Keep up the great work,

I think I answered it

As it appears, the backups are stored in /backups off of root. Unfortunately when I copied my 2.6.1 backup into that directory, then used 2.6.2.1 to restore it, all became corrupt. I could see all of my old phone logs, but there were enough changes in the backups between 2.6.1 and 2.6.2.1 that the older backup won't work.

Question is; why would you guys upgrade your software to where it is impossible to reinstate a system from an older backup? Why not at least offer a routine that will update the older backups so that they can be used?

I manage a law office and it is imperative that we be able to keep the older backups.

Repositories Down?

Now that I have things figured out, and have installed a fresh copy, I find that the repositories seem to be down and I cannot retrieve the backup module for 2.6.2.1

Cannot restore from 2.6.1.13 backup

I had the same results.
Installed 2.6.2.1 and everything seems fine except a few minor problems. Then I decided to restore from a 2.6.1.13 backup. The backup files now are in /backups. After restore, the system is destroyed. when I go to PBX Settings there is no modules on the left side. A few Notifications displayed on the screen telling that if I'm new, welcome!

My question is that is there a way to upgrade from one version to another?

Thanks.

Maybe if...

If the repositories ever come back up I'm going to reinstall the backup module and attempt a selective restore of just my log files and voicemails. I have redone and saved all of my other configs in a backup of a reconfigured 2.6.2.1, so if I can just restore some of my old info I'll be happy.

tb_backup issue

Similar issue but different path.

I performed a yum update on my system thinking i was shooting for 2.6.1.10. It updated straight to 2.6.2.1.

The system is running fine, except that my backups are failing.

We decided to perform a fresh install on a separate server and migrate one of the 2.6.1.3 backups to be restored once 2.6.2.1 was installed. No dice.... it seems as though all of my legacy backups are useless as I saw the same result as karlliu. I shipped the backups from the old server (now running 2.6.2.1) to the new server (also now running a fresh install of 2.6.2.1) into the backup directory off the root, performed a restore and presto... missing files and broken modules.

Next, I thought that perhaps I should perform a backup on the old server using the new tb_backup software. No go... while I can get into the web interface, it won't let me setup the backup. When I enter the backup name and click "New", nothing happens.

Has anyone seen this behaviour?

Thanks in advance

Backup

I did yum install tbm-backup on a clean install of 2.6.2.1 and the module installed fine, setting up a backup seemed to be a bit flaky but after fiddling I got it setup correctly and made a backup to my off site ftp server. The file seemed large at 21 Megabytes for a very basic install with a couple of trunks and five extensions. Any comments on backup size? have not tried a restore yet, will do a clean install on another server and see what happens.

It's not in module admin

It's not in module admin it's in packages. I would suggest you use the command 'yum install tbm-backup' from the shell prompt.

Thanks. I have tbm-backup

Thanks. I have tbm-backup installed already. However, on the old trixbox server, I did backup by this way
- PBX -> PBX Settings
- Tools -> Backup & Restore

and did backup there. Now on the new server, in PBX Settings, there is no Backup & Restore tool. So, go to System menu, and use Backup there?
Thanks

WHAT?!?!?!?!

I hope everyone gave you guys loads of crap for this one. I remember speaking to tech support not but a few months ago, and I specifically recall everyone being very adamant about using the FreePBX backup and restore because it's more stable than the Trixbox Backup. 1 PBXtra guy and 1 Trixbox guy told me that.

Now you've moved to the OLD Trixbox backup and for kicks made it impossible for me to access it in the repository due to xml errors and http timeouts. It's almost like you want the community people to fail.

I had to backup-restore from an earlier version and now I'm royally screwed because of it. Is the restore going to fail when I try it?

The most interesting part of this whole problem is that I pay $150 an hour for certified phone tech support that barely EVER picks up the phone (even though I'm a paying customer) and when they do they proceed to tell me that it's my fault for trying to mix restore versions - which is complete crap because even if I went back to the existing version that I'm using on a restore box I still have to get NEW updates from you to make them work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope you guys had a nice, relaxed, happy holidays because you screwed up mine and now it's time for you guys to get up and figure out what it is you want, and freaking stick to it.

Feliz Navidad bitches.

PS - I don't appreciate my harsh language either but it's necessary right now. Also this isn't directed at Kerry because he's an AsterGod.

If you're having errors

If you're having errors using the package manager then just use yum install tbm-backup
The tbm-backup was only not recommended when it was still in beta. During that when trixbox was using FreePBX, it was still better to use that the FreePBX backup/restore.

The errors in the package manager are usually caused by content filtering on networks that are from being enabled.
If it's a timeout error then adjust your php.ini file.

You just simply cannot restore a FreePBX backup onto a a version with PBXConfig. The versions are just too different and incompatible.

Everybody who calls into support is a paying customer. I understand that wait times can be a bit frustrating but we try to get back to everyone in the order they have originally called in or placed an email ticket.

Freepbx backup/restore

Here is what I did, I had a Freepbx backup, the 2.6.2 yum update trashed my raid system. I reloaded back to the previous Trixbox ISO, I updated Freepbx as much as possible (I had done this prior to the backup I had as well so it was 2.5.x) I downloaded the current version of Freepbx and installed it over the Trixbox install.. it complained but I said to go ahead and make changes. Back in the Trixbox PBX area it showed many new options and I chose to update them all and install everything.. I then had my Freepbx backup/restore.. I restored the backup and it has been running fine for a few weeks now. I have yet to get an answer anywhere on this forum about the raid problem (I also get a blue screen on the new ISO after the initial questions) I am currently looking at alternatives to Trixbox although I like it, it has just been a bit to goofy lately and the whole fork of FreePBX now appears to have been a mistake IMO.

Because this is trixbox CE. Which is why it's called PBXConfig now.
Now you can backup everything, not just part of your trixbox server.

So how am I...

How am I supposed to take backups from my old Trixbox server running 2.6.1.10 and restore them onto a new Trixbox server running 2.6.2.1? I do NOT want to update the older Trixbox server to the newer version, I want to be able to take the backups from that system and restore them into the 2.6.2.1. PLEASE tell me there is a way to do this without reinstalling FreePBX over the existing Trixbox installation?

Thanks in advance,

David

Backup Works but no way to Save Schedule

I somehow managed to get the backup module installed, and it works but if I go to schedule it there is no Save button.
Also I remember seeing a post about deleting backup jobs via Webmin in the SQL database. I went there and wasn't quite sure what I was looking at. Any tips?

Thanks,

Same issues as mentioned

Same issues as mentioned above.

Just did a fresh install of 2.6.2.2 from CD. TBM-Backup does install but does not work. When running "System-Backup" all I get is an empty box with a "New" button that does nothing.
With "Backup & Restore" being gone from the "Tools" there is no way to do any backups or restore in 2.6.2.2.

Anybody any ideas on how to do a backup and restore?????

Cheers, Marcello

I think the reason why

I think the reason why people WANT the choice is because the freepbx module works. So they can atleast upgrade your product, where as the trixbox versions backup modules haven't worked since day one. As it stands from the reports below it still doesnt work, in effect trixbox is a crippled product! I couldn't imagine selling a customer a file server an telling them.. well the backup doesn't really work, but it's coming. But fonality expects people to tell them this is the case with their much more critcal phone system?

wtf is wrong with you people? In all the months this has been in development whats the issue? Why not put it to the public and get some help to fix this and put it to bed already?

Backup Troubles

Hello All,

I just recently took our box from 2.6.1.1 to 2.6.2 and I am getting similar results as everyone else.
I have tbm-backup installed and all I get is the blank table with the text box and new button.
Trying to create a new backup does nothing.

I was trying to follow the instructions here: http://sureteq.com/asterisk/trixboxv2.6.2.htm#17.0_-_Backups

When I type in a name and hit new it flashes and remains blank.

Is it bugged or am I doing something wrong?

Much like the poster up 4 posts, I add a name, hit New, and I get nothing. I'm not using https. I've removed and reinstalled the backup package, I've done the rpm / yum check to see that the versions are the same. It's all very sad. I'd like to be able to see what the next screens do. I saw a screen shot.
I'd love to hear of anyone who has resolved this issue.

Hello, I'm new to this

Hello, I'm new to this community and I recently started working with trixbox. I have set up a test server to test trixbox and one of those test was the backup module. I was able to get the backup module to work, however when I deleted the test backups I made (deleted backups through PuTTY), it broke the module. Now I try to add a schedule by adding a name, hit next and nothing happens. I've also deleted the module (or uninstalled) and reinstalled the module and still nothing. The reason I had to use PuTTY to delete the test backups is because I saw no option in the backup module (GUI/web interface) to delete or modify. I feel that this backup module needs more features through the web interface such as deletion, modifications (to schedule names), download/export backups, and maybe emailing backups. As a new user to trixbox, I'm learning a lot through these forums, but no one seems to have a fix for this issue. I hope someone can show us all how to resolve this issue.

I also tried:
yum install tbm-backup

I also tried:
rpm -qa tbm-GUIcore
tbm-GUIcore-2.6.2.2-1
rpm -qa tbm-backup
tbm-backup-2.6.2-19

yum list | grep tbm-GUIcore
tbm-GUIcore.noarch 2.6.2.2-1 installed
yum list | grep tbm-backup
tbm-backup.noarch 2.6.2-19 installed

tbm-backup works fine in a

tbm-backup works fine in a clean 2.6.2.2

I have sucessfully made a full backup of the system, have it FTP'ing up to my remote server.

I then deleted a bunch of items. And had backup restore them all successfully.

The only interesting thing will be what will happen after upgrading the system. Will the backups break?

To safeguard myself, I'm going to use DD to make a backup of my entire Trixbox drive (bare metal backup). This way if the RAID array craps out, I'm still in good shape. I can DD the backup image back to good drives, then apply the automatic backup of the config and I'll be up and running within an hour.

It's great to think that a built-in backup utility will work 100% of the time. And usually, the backup will work just fine. But to be safe, you want to be able to restore to the exact same state that the backup was taken in.

Each time there are major software upgrades, a new bare metal (DD type) backup should be taken. Then run a manual config backup using tbm-backup.

Phone systems are too critical to trust to just one method of backup.

I have also tried to delete the backups that I have tested with and the backup module works flawlessly.

Installed from the beta repository. yum info tbm-backup yields a version of 2.6.2.19

I also want to restore a backup from my old 2.6 tb to my new 2.6.2.1.

I want to use the new server as a backup server in case the primary fails. This already happened late last year when teh hard disk failed.

Now I find that my old backups are no good unless I install the same old version of trixbox.

What is the point of removing the freepbx backup module which worked great?

Even in the new backup module under tb I don't see where to restore anyway.

Is it possible to download and install the freepbx module to use under pbxconfig??

Thanks

This is one more reason why

This is one more reason why people are jumping ship to other distro's that embrace freepbx.

Trixbox was built on freepbx, and it's great that they are forking it....not really, but whatever. the point is that their own system isn't backwards compatible with their own software, nor do they let people even know about this.

Such a great project that's turned into a dive......too bad.

How simple is it to use something like debian to install asterisk and freepbx?

Trixbox has nice touches like the scripts to setup the network cards but they really are alienating their users. I have made donations to tb and freepbx as i don't want to be a complete freeloader!

FPBX Backup Module..

Not sure if there is any real issues with doing this, but like some of you I tried to use the tbm-backup module and just couldn't get it going. Looking at my older 2.6.1 install I have on a different machine, I saw that as I moved forward it still had the FPBX stuff too, that or when I did that upgrade to FPBX 2.5 it all got added, I am not sure.

Anyway to make a long story short, I just went looking for the current FPBX module, which I found at http://freepbx.org/trac/browser/modules/release/2.5/backup-2.5.1.... and then I just used the add a third party module in FPBX to add that module to my system. After that I now have the FPBX backup module, and it sure appears to be working fine.

One question, when I look at that server in module admin, I see the backup module I installed, but if you check for module upgrades you see "Enabled; Not available online". As I know it's a FPBX module, does anyone know how to tell it that it's part of FPBX and to look for updates?

So in closing, I agree backups are VERY important to the system, and I don't see a single good reason why they couldn't leave both and let the user decide which to use...

I'm in the same boat with you on this Jose when it comes to trying the same things. Has anyone contacted you with any solutions? I ran everything in the CLI but am still, after restart, not seeing backup & restore in the GUI.

Should I be looking at unchecking and rechecking the trixbox Stable repository? I seem to recal that fixing a different problem for me in the past. Just hesitant to do so as i'd rather not take any unnessary risks "trying things". If you know what I mean.

Same boat as well - help !

New install 2.6.2.2 of Trixbox - loaded backup tbm-backup from packages. I was UNable to get the tbm-backup to work by dropping backup_item and backup_schedule from the asterisk Mysql database using webmin. Tried also uninstall and reinstall (which put back backuo_item & backup_schedule) - rebooted after each step - no difference (select a backup schedule - boxes underneath blank - new button - enter name or just press it screen refreshes but nothing else)

Any insight on how to get this working would be great - Not too clever that a system backup does not work (accepting that it may be me not being to clever)

Thanks

NEW Button now works

Just to keep you up to date. uninstalled and reinstalled tbm-backup and deleted the two SQL items (without rebooting) - New button now functions and I can add schedules. Have not tested actual backup functionality - thought a progress report would be useful

u can copy ur backup file to

The restore button works! i am thinking of writing a small script for ppl who r having all the problems
Even if u select the location it doesnt use that location to backup all the backups r stored in
/backup
so to install backups from old system u need to go this
first name a backup- lets call it latestbackup
then do a backup even with a blank system

it will create a directory
/backup/lastestbackup/*tar.gz
where some tar.gz file of the backup will reside

now take ur tar.gz file from old system and place it here and it will restore the old configuration

The only problem is that if u backed up in a older version then the format is not compatible and it will screw up
so u need to use the just created backup to see the same screen

What i am thinkin of doing is to upgrade my old system and backup under version 2.51 and then do a backup that should work here
To upgrade use

Just installed the backup tool, but it does nothing.

I just installed the backup tool and I see a select box titled "Select a Backup Schedule" and at the bottom is a "New" button.

I tried creating a new backup which gets put in the select box, but it does nothing.

I view the HTML source and there is reference to Dates and Scheduling all of which I cannot see in the web page.

I've testing this with IE7 and FireFox and cannot do anything.

Any suggestions?

Same problem here

Upgrade to a new box using 2.6.2.2

The restore didn't work. In fact, my system was left in such a state that I had to install everything again, from scratch.

Absolutely AMAZING work. Lets celebrate such phenomenal work, such demonstration of talent. I'll drink to that!

Cheers!

What version are you

What version are you upgrading from? You have to use the same backup tool you previously used and you can't upgrade from previous minor versions, such as 2.4 to 2.6.x.

Anxiously waiting for Backup utility to be repaired in 2.6.2.2

Randall - just curious on what the current ETA for the fix of the backup script would be? It's been about 2 weeks after you made your post that you guys are working on it. We're in the process of upgrading our current old Trixbox server with new HW and the latest version for our office when we ran up against this current game stopper with the backup mechanism being nonfunctional. Thanks.

I also asked if the fixed backup will make it into the 2.8 final.

This solution works to get FreePBX's Backup working again

Just wanted to confirm that WB3FFV's solution above works for getting at least the FreePBX version of backup/restore working again (the one most of us were used to in the first place). Just to repeat the steps:

1) Download FreePBX's backup module here: http://freepbx.org/trac/browser/modules/release/2.5/backup-2.5.1....
2) In the top menu: PBX -> PBX Settings and then on the left hand menu Tools -> Module Admin click on 'Upload Module'.
3) Select from your local PC the backup-2.5.1.6.tgz and upload the bad boy.
4) Once uploaded, click on 'Manage Local Modules', scroll down to the newly restored ;) backup module.
5) Install as you would normally install other modules.

It appears to work. Though I haven't fully tested for my application.

permanently screwed

Yes we know that the backup function works on a clean install.

the problem is that fonality have screwed the installation so even if i install the original iso 2.6.1 restore functions no longer work?

basically because my drive crashed yesterday all of my backups are permanently screwed.

upload works BUT cant restore

yes adding the backup module works BUT you cant then restore old backups from 2.6.1

wtf has fonality done here to prevent both old iso installs 2.6.1 PLUS new 2.6.2 isos to no longer be compatible with backups.

Still no update?

rpm -qa tbm-GUIcore
tbm-GUIcore-2.6.2.2-1

rpm -qa tbm-backup
tbm-backup-2.6.2-19

Backup schedule never fires, I have no issue with backup/restore manually, I just want the backup to automatically fire when I schedule it. I did some poking around inside the backup directory, and saw that it is scheduled by some other cron job. I stopped there, because it was getting a bit above my head. Anybody know if their schedules are working, or am I the only one?

My backup is working times 30 !

I am somewhat confused -- on this backup issue --

Mine is working flawlessly and has been since I started using it -- I use the backup module

backup-2.5.1.5.tgz

Now I know about version 2.6.x or so they stopped including it but I just load it manually back using
the webgui -- and use it..

I have even used the restore function a bunch of times - changing out server hardware or upgrading
harddrives.

It works on all my trixbox servers and I have well over 30 plus installations all backing up back to
my Comcast connection to my CentOS backup server with a 500 GIG harddrive with a small script
that then displays the status of all the backups.. on top of that copying a complete copy to my other
CentOS server with a 1TB harddrive then keeping the last 5 days worth for retention..

Red means more than 2 days old -- Yellow one day old (most are from weekend as clients turn the
PCs off over the weekend

this is what I get when I try to use it.
