Does anyone have pictures of their Trixbox System setups? If not I think it'd be sort of neat to see some pictures.

I am away so I'll explain to

I am away so I'll explain to you from my phone.
Very simple. No pictures required.
I think you are thinking the same way I did 2 years ago. I didn't understand what an IP system meant, so I thought I'd have to buy some type of phone line output for the server.

For starters, you can just use a regular computer with an ethernet card. Put it in your network, open up UDP ports 5060 and 10000 to 20000 UDP and you're set. Everything is via IP, so that meants your phones plug into your network, you phone service runs over the internet (and you configure it on trixbox), etc etc. You still need pictures? It's like a regular server.

Some people use analog inputs called zaptel, so they can use regular landline service. For starters, what I told you is good enough

i think he just wants a pic

i think he just wants a pic of a server racked up with nice switches and patch panels.

SIP only system:
P4 Supermicro, hotswap SATA + hotswap power

larger "budget" system:
Opteron Tyan (never do again), dual hotswap power, Sangoma dual T1 + 24 ports fxo for backup, 2 Dlink 24 port managed POE (now expanded to 3) mortgage office that fluctuates between 40 and 60 live phones:

backside

Those are older clients, now days most of my systems run on Dell servers, or Supermicro - they just work.

Yeah that's what I mean, I have my own TrixBox Setup but it'd be interesting to see some of the others out there.

jahyde - Every time someone

jahyde -

Every time someone asks what a system to support 50 calls should look like I am sending them a link to this post. Everything is dressed perfect - dual PS's etc etc.

James -

The first picture, I don't even know what to say other than that is exactly why people have problems, and blame the server.

The bottom picture you can't even see the gear. Could really use some vertical and horizontal wire management!

thanks Scott - I have

thanks Scott - I have better, but thats a clip I had around. My company does "structured" wiring also, that was a budget job, used the rack from their old office, otherwise it would have been even better. When you get the luxury of building a network from the ground-up - oooh so nice - otherwise, I usually dont get afforded the time to clean up 5-10 year old wiring "buildup" and "residue".

FRICKEN AYE!! James what the hell were you doing in my garage???

jayhde (It's Jim isn't

jayhde (It's Jim isn't it)-

Do you guys employ a BICSI RCDD? We decided long ago not to do cable work, it's just not what we do.

I we have any question of the quality of wiring we require the customer to have the wiring recertified prior to the install. We have a strategic Partnership with a great Electrical Contractor. We do not work with any "trunk slammers".

When we built the colo we had 24 ports of Hubbell CAT 6 to each rack and a 12 port LIU with MM fiber all back to the demarc/distribution rack. We can grow all we want with that.

Our office is another matter, it's not "that" bad however I would like to make our server room a sales tool. I may get around to it one day.

hell no - thats a big cut in

hell no - thats a big cut in the profit - we dont do that many wiring jobs (2-5/month), and its usually small when we do, I prefer to market my tech and pbx departments, and only do wiring 'MAC's - that way some slick wiring company wont get in there and try to undercut me on the IT and telco side - although I doubt anyone can do as good a job as my guys and do it for less. A lot of the local wiring companies in my area are trying to break into the tech arena with sharp teeth, and of course they all do PBXes.

Besides that I broke into the telco industry from "the wire up" - I used to do a lot of wiring for a wiring company back in the days of Legends, Magix, and Partners. They had a BICSI designer, and I learned a lot there, they put me through a couple cheapo courses, and I have been through most of the courses offered by vendors like Allentel/Mohawk. besides that I have 2 other members on my team that are very well versed wire-wise, but no certs. otherwise, if we dont have the time or current man-power, I also sub out to another very good low volt contractor, and they rep my company.

and its john, but - i think weve hi-jacked this post so....

thanks John, Yeah we have

thanks John,

Yeah we have kinda hijacked the thread, although the pictures are dominated by the wiring.

We have had some bids that required the certs. I am not sure the paper makes you any better. I always have the same problem, differentiation. The customer does not see the difference in the guy who uses a $10 Wal Mart wiring tool and a continuity tester against certified wiring. We don't use anything that fancy either (Penta Scanner). It's an endless battle.

I am doing a small trix install on Tuesday and will post some pics. It's nothing fancy.
