Trixbox CE Vs PBXtra

Simple question. Which is better?

I have a few issues I've mentioned elsewhere without any resolution.

Obviously PBXtra costs a lot more but in a commercial situation, is it worth it?

I'd be interested to know what you think.

Secondary issue, does it play nice with sangoma cards?

Thanks

PBXtra is a packaged

PBXtra is a packaged pre-configured system. You need not worry about the line card or server hardware for that fact. You configure a system to your needs and 15 days later it is delivered ready to be plugged in. Phones included. Now which one is better is a different question. Now you have to consider the three possibilities and how your organization functions. First there are essentially three different offerings with different flavors of each. PBXtra is a prepackaged system with standard, professional and call center options. trixbox pro is similar to PBXtra, but it is a 'you supply hardware' model. You still need to use approved hardware but you get it. The trixbox CE, well I think you know the score on that one. All of the selections can give top quality systems if built correctly but each requires a different level of your businesses technical capability with PBXtra being the least.

Thanks for your answer

Thanks for your answer James. I realised that PBXtra was a hardware/sofwtare solution after I asked the question.

Problem is I already have the hardware, so I guess I shoudl change my question to which edition of trixbox should I use?

Theoretically ce should have all I need but its more that I have problems at the moment. All to do with queuing. I wonder if pro would solve those problems.

Pro is MUCH better with

Pro is MUCH better with Queuing than CE is. The Queues and Agents are one of the biggest changes from stock Asterisk.

Hi Kerry. Thanks for your

Hi Kerry. Thanks for your answer. Maybe you could answer the following questions so.

In my current queue I have six members.

I want to be able to specify
1. A round robin strategy specifying the order the members/phoens ring in.
2. That this queue does not ring busy phones, only unbusy.

Currently also when a caller disconnects while ina queue ce holds the zap trunk open as if there had been no disconnect. This is a big problem. The same problem has also manifested itself in voicemail. Is this fixed in pro?

I presume support for sangoma cards/snom phones are at least as good in pro as in ce?

Another question, can one include an external number as a member in a queue? If it is not answered can the queue go on as before?
That's enough questions for now! Thanks again.

Richard

If the hardware that you

If the hardware that you have is NOT on the approved hardware list:

you have a choice of trixbox CE or trixbox CE.

Damn, just realised I was

Damn, just realised I was looking at the pricing of enterprise instead of call center. Call Center is VERY expensive. I don't need unlimited queues. Does enterprise support any queues?

only Call Center allows

only Call Center allows queues ($499/seat retail), these links pretty much sum it up:
http://www.trixbox.com/products/help-me-choose
http://www.trixbox.com/products/trixbox-pro/features

As for your problems, some of them will most likely cross over no matter which soft switch you have, the "lines not hanging up" issue is most likely because your phone company is not sending the correct disconnect signals when a hangup occurs, so the system stays on the line for several seconds/minutes until it hopefully hears the fast busy. I had a similar problem on an install 2 weeks ago, took 3 days, but the telco finally fixed it, in the mean time I was still able to successfully "work-around" their problem by using relaxdtmf=yes in zapata.conf. Your queue issues - those could be a legit issue in the asterisk code (I have several systems with queues that work fine), and PRO does have a lot of code-fixes to optimize queues.
- you should notice a major difference between PRO and CE: CE is driven by the communities demands, PRO is driven by simple feature sets that are much stabler and more hardened. Many times the communities demands to ram out the latest Asterisk patch in a production release of trixbox are a bit premature and cause dev to be under the gun to put out a not-so hardened product. However - with CE the software is 100% in your hands, and the possibilities are limitless - just depends on how much time you have to "play" with your phone system - it can be "fun" (if you get your kicks like that), and it can give you much more flexibility than you may find in PRO.
