Quick question guys.
How many users do you think a Trixbox server with 4GB of RAM and a 3.0Ghz Processor running the latest version of CE can handle.

its not a matter of number of users its a matter of concurrent calls. There are trixbox CE installations with 900 extensions but low call volume. Then it depends on which codecs you are using and how you are making those calls. That box with 4 PRI's should be able to handle 96 concurrent calls using G711.

That's all I needed to know.
Thanks so much Kerry.
Reason I ask is because I'm doing a new office setup for a doctor I work with and I can imagine that as awesome as Trixbox is and how little of a resource hog it is, I figure that a small box would suffice. Something with like 512Mb of RAM and a 1.5 Ghz processor. It could even go lower than that.
I imagine the office would only have about 5-6 concurrent calls at any time.
I'm trying to keep costs as low as possble.
Watcha think?
We have 30+ extensions on a 1Ghz PIII with 512M ram.
Recording and queues are resource hogs.

I have trid this with a 5 user conference and get no drop-out's (you do need more than 256MB RAM though!
Hi,
I'm curious about the ratio of concurrent calls in relation to systems with let's say 2ghz processor and 512mb ram.
From what I have read online, it seems like Asterisk an handle 10 or even 20 to 1 call ratio, with such hardware, and with low bandwith voice codecs.
Does this sound right?
I'm a newbie. so excuse the questions for the next few months...

Nobody is going to "excuse" your lack of research. We are hear to answer questions but you have to do your homework.
