Trixbox on Lenovo ThinkServer TD100
I had searched for info before deciding on a Lenovo ThinkServer for a new Trixbox deployment I was doing for a customer but I couldn't find anyone saying anything good or bad about using one (possibly because the ThinkServer is a new product for Lenovo). I get a pretty good deal on the ThinkServers, so I went ahead and tried it, figuring at least I could provide some information for other users on the site regardless of the outcome.
Here's what I got:
Lenovo ThinkServer TD100
Intel 5000P chipset
Dual 250GB 7200RPM SATA drives in RAID 1 (Adaptec AIC-9580W raid controller)
Intel Dual-Core Xeon E5405 / 2 GHz
2 GB RAM
Video controller: ATI ES1000 - 16 MB
Broadcom BCM5721
Digium TDM410P
I'm not very far in, but Trixbox 2.6.2.2 installed without a hitch - crossing my fingers that the Digium card goes in ok like normal and that the rest of the install/configuration will be painless.
Any reason why you don't like the certified HP DL360's or are you very qualified in Linux and feel comfortable with unsupported hardware?
I wouldn't call myself "very qualified" in Linux, but I don't mind a challenge now and again. Honestly pricing was the primary reason in this case, and a personal disposition to avoid HP would have steered me away from them had I even been aware of the fact that they had a certified offering.
Strangely, though I spend a lot of time lurking around this site and the forums, it wasn't until you mentioned currently certified hardware that I actually really, really looked hard and found the certified servers page with the couple of Dell and HP options on trixbox.com. When I looked before I looked over the hardware list in the FAQ and in the Wiki that was linked from there on THIS site instead. These resources don't even mention the HP DL360's which makes it a little confusing for someone who is relatively new to the community (this is only my third Trixbox deployment). Now that I know these are out of date and that better info can be found at trixbox.com instead I'll keep that in mind for future decisions...
And as an update, the digium card of course went in fine.
Yes the Digium card will work fine, it is the RAID that I am concerned about.
I am sure IBM has management tools for Redhat EL. It's just a matter of installing the RP/M's (usually)
