Trixbox Protype Appliance based on Intel D201GLY

Just to report that I successfully installed TB 2.2.4 on this Motherboard. I am using this MoBo inside a Morex 2699, 512MB ddr2 memory and a WD 80 GB ide hd. The processor is a Celeron 1.3GHZ with a lot more processing power than competing Via C3 processors. Total cost of $230

It took me less than 2 hours to install and set up as a prototype demo TB appliance, this time includes uploading of Spanish voice prompts.

I am using it with an infamous X100P but planning to use a TDM400 with 4 FX0 modules to do a bit of stress testing.

Noise level is very low and the reviews of the board has this MoBo power consumption around 30watts.

My preliminary impression is that this could be the basis of a 1 to 20 extension system with very high value/cost ratio.

I'm also from Spain (are you from Spain, or from some latin country?) and I'm also in the VoIP business, and would like to develop some kind of appliance, like the one you talk about.

the only thing that worries me is that the power supply on that case is not designed to run 24x7, and I'm not sure how reliable it may be. Also, the HD gets really hot in this kind of cases. Are you planning to deploy this appliance to a production system, or did you only set it up as a demo/prototype, as you said in the title?

also, one last thing. Which Spanish voices did you use?

Hi there,

I am in Chile but Colombian born.

Actually the power supply is not in the case, it is an external unit so it should be much more reliable than an internal unit because it is not subject to heat continuously. I am bundling this appliance with an 800w UPS (which should supply power for around 6 hours or more) and automatic backup to a remote ftp site. This as a solution would be as reliable or more than the small proprietary PBX solutions small companies use.

It is a very impressive small motherboard if you ask me

My plan is to deploy it in production sites with less than 20 extensions. I am using this set of sounds:

In my unbiased ( ;) ) opinion Colombian accent is the most accent free Spanish (probably you would disagree).

thank you very much Ramiro :) Yes, you are right, the UPS+External Power supply should be more reliable than I thought.

One suggestion: A lot of small business ask me to set up the fax-to-email service. The found it very valuable, but I've not been still able to get it to work 100%. May be you can give it a try and offer that service to your customers.

Have not tried to implement fax to email ever. My suggestion to customers has been not to place faxes into the PBX and keeping them separate, however you may have a point there.

Good challenge for this week end. I will report back.

I have also been looking at using this motherboard with trixbox 1.2.3. How easy was it for you to install trixbox on this system? Did you have any issues with drivers, etc.? Have the system proven to be reliable? I look forward to hearing your experience.

The D201GLY, D201GLYL, D201GLY2 tested and works well with Trixbox 2.2
We havent tried with 1.2.3 or the latest 2.2.9 but soon will be testing them.

We use small cases for the D201GLY.
They fit nicely and works perfect with our clients.

I used a Morex Cubid 2699V Mini-ITX Case - Black, which looks very nice, small form, can be deployed horizontally or vertically.

Ramiro, the Morex Cubid 2699V Mini-ITX case fits just fine and adds a slick look to it. All my hardware is black and I didn't wanna change the color just for a box. Thanks for the idea.
