Now that is what I am talking about.

Time for you folks to test a real provider

I see that CVP module is missing on current Freepbx so here you go

cd /usr/src
wget http://www.pbx4pros.com/files/freepbx/modules/voicepulse.tar.gz
cd /var/www/html/admin/modules/
tar -zxvf /usr/src/voicepulse.tar.gz

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

I had a couple questions that don't pop up when trolling around the voicepulse site. However, it appears that only payment method is credit card on file and that the minimum automatic recharge after the trial is $50.00.

I also would like to know what is the billing increment.

Yes, I would like to know this information as well. I have had no problems with Telasip but I just don't like using SIP and they is what they want me to use. I just have NAT issues with my TrixBox and Smoothwall. I may want to look and see how voicepulse works. Now if I could port my telasip number to them!!!

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

Maybe the person that wrote the original advertisement could stop back in and answer the questions. $1.11 for 58 minutes. If that is for NANPA call it is about quadruple the price in the ad, 200-400 minutes for $2.00.

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

Ok the site just as all others gives the BEST rates one can get.
Not all areas get the half cent a min (in fact as far as I know only one number I called is billed at that rate)

I gave you real use numbers, as about 99 % of my calls are billed at the higher rate.

I do not think VoicePulse Hangs out here, all you gotta do is send them some email.

But if you are looking at VOIP as a money saver, I do not think that is going to happen, atleast as I have never seen it.

Now where I do see saving is dumping all the fluff out of the phone bill.

My bell POTS lines gave me LD in us for UNLIMITED calls in / out for 25.00 a month
(after Katrina I had no need for the POTS line as the WHOLE building was gone)

My cell gives me the same deal for 49.95 a month

Now for me to run a PBX at the office I would need to increase my bandwidth charge to 200.00 a month, a 150.00 dollar a month increase.
To get any QOS I would need the higher end package from the local cable company.

Now will I or most of the SoHos save anything by switching VoIP?
Not if I must pay more for BW to use those trunks.

In many cases the answer is NO the SOHO will not save money on the calls they make, but they will get more than can with the addons' (voice mail / call forwarding / IVR / Remote offices / inter office calling)

To save 150.00 off a phone bill the I would have to make more than 150.00 a month in LD .... OH wait I can talk 24 / 7 for 25.00 .....it just does not add up.

Voip trunks are enhance to, not a replacement for PSTN.

Does that make sense.

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

It makes sense. Although it is not to the point. I am not sure (although again off topic) that the analysis is valid much beyond your individual situation. That kind of conclusion to be valid would require specific call mix, time of day, peak time elements, to name a few, to be put into the mix to draw a useful comparison. Some small and SOHO businesses or home users could gain advantages and features that might run the PSTN or traditional cost way beyond the equivalent VOIP or mixed configuration.

This thread was borderline spam from the outset. It is incumbent on the original poster to not hit and run but rather be responsible to as you say "Hang out" here if they are going to use the forum for promotion.

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

as a biz user, i guess i see your point. most people have decent broadband nowadays, so that cost is already present. as far as a replacement, for a residential user, i disagree. i can do all kinds of neat things with a voip number that i can't with a pots number. most of these are things isdn should have been able to do, but the telcos screwed that up :(

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

VoicePulse does not bill a flat per-minute rate as some of our competitors do. Instead, since we have many high volume customers and most of those use some form of least cost routing, VoicePulse offers tiered rates.

For example, if you are a user with 10,000 minutes a month, you have three options:

Option A

Send all of those calls to Provider A that charges a flat per-minute rate of 1.5¢/minute.

Option B

Send all of those calls to VoicePulse, some of which will end up costing as low as 0.5¢/min or up to 1.9¢/min, but end up averaging around 1¢ for normal calling patterns.

Option C

Send only calls that are less than 1.5¢ through VoicePulse and send the rest through Provider A at 1.5¢ flat. We make it easy for our customers to implement this kind of solution in Asterisk (but not Trixbox... yet!) with our FlexRate macro.

As you can see, comparing our pricing to another provider is not quite apples-to-apples, but it can provide a significant savings to *some* users. To get this kind of pricing from a carrier usually requires a volume commitment, which is not the case with VoicePulse. We do offer a "Calculate Your Savings" page that lets you paste up to 1,000 of your latest calls to see how much it would have cost you with VoicePulse.

We hope this trial will give Trixbox users a chance to experience our sign up process, customer service response times and call quality without any upfront cost. Also, as Trixbox is a quickly evolving product, hopefully our trials will allow the community to continue testing and providing feedback to the developers -- resulting in a better product for everyone.

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

I'm not a fan of unsolicited advertisement in the form of "good news" postings, when we should actually be discussing about our own experiences with our current providers... So here goes mine:

I've been using voipyourlife (voipyourlife.com) for the last few months, I pay $29/month and I can call pretty much everywhere in the world for free. Countries that are not included in the plan have very low rates (I call Peru for about 2 cents/minute).

I also got a local number from Peru so people could call me with a local rate. they waived the setup fee for me and I pay $19/month for this number. They also sent me a lynksys spa2002 phone adapter for free (I'm sure it's locked with their service -but that's of course expected). Their customer service is outstanding and although they offer only residential service for now, they have told me that I can test with asterisk, without a problem. They don't mind.

I'm also looking for a commercial provider for VoIP, but with so many bad references flying around, it's hard to pick one. I was leaning towards teliax (teliax.com)... Anybody has any experience with them?

Thanks,

Brian Thorne

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

OK
I guess some of you do not know that Voicepulse is active here.
They released some phone provisoning tools
Notice the ad to left, I would assume they pay for that, which in turn may help for the power to keep this forum up, it does cost money to produce FREE software and provide a way for the users of said freeware to get some support.

They are not some troll hanging out spamming.

Once more someone is posting about some user account, not the same thing by any means.

I am just saying "Keep the Copper" add the VOIP to enchance the Copper.

Just as the Voicepulse response has laid out, I do my own LCR by using my all-I can-eat PSTN for all the outbound calls I can, when a second or third inbound / outbound line is needed my VOIP comes into play.

By using CWob / CWoNA, I get it all and I do not sweat it when the INET goes down.

Brian,

I've been using Teliax for the all you can eat residential service for about 10 months. Great service and good customer service the few times I've had to use it.

I can't recommend them enough as long as you do not need e911.

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

Tom,
I'm giving teliax it a try.
Thanks for the tip.

Here's a tip back:
I'm getting my numbers from didww.com and registering them to my asterisk box.
I think didx.net is cheaper and you can select your actual final numbers, but they don't seem to sell less than 25 numbers at a time. I just needed 2 for now.

Also, I'm getting a WIP330 wifi phone from Linksys ($319) which by the way it's taking a while for them to ship it. I think this is the beginning of the end for cell phone technology... Or at least they will stop ripping off customers and lower their rates to compete with (almost free) WiFi VoIP technology. Who knows... Someone might be biting the dust soon...

I've read that a lot of people is having trouble with this phone, but if I can get it to work at my house and at my office (and maybe in a few hotspots) for 3 months, it pays for itself... I've had enough of verizon and cingular for a lifetime; not to mention the value of being (somewhat) ahead in the VoIP learning curve...

Brian

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

bthorne,
Do you have any advise how to setup DIDWW on Trixbox? I am using their TRY account and are not able to make it happen.

Q1: What are you setting on DIDWW? Are you using SIP or IAX?
(example: IAX 5000:5000@my_trix_ip (5000 is extension and password)

Q2: What is your trunk setting in FreePBX? Their support page is quite cryptic.

Q3: Anything else I am missing? I am getting only "Your call did not go through - message"

Thanks!
- Klaus

Re: Free SIP/IAX Trial Account for All Trixbox Users

In my account with DIDWW, I have my DID's URI set up as SIP/MY_PHONE_NUMBER@MY_ASTERISK_BOX_IP_OR_DOMAIN.
e.g. SIP/19541234567@mydomain.com

Then in my asterisk server at home, I have in my sip.conf file the following section:

[19541234567] ; this would be my phone number at DIDWW
host=204.11.194.34 ; this is DIDWW server IP address in the US
dtmfmode=rfc2833
dtmf=rfc2833
type=user
context=from-didww ; this is the context I want to catch the call
insecure=very ; anybody can call me
nat=never
allow=all
canreinvite=no
qualify=yes

also, in my extensions.conf file, I have the following:

[from-didww] ; this should match the extension above (sip.conf)
exten=> s,1,Dial(SIP/100) ; answers all incoming calls and transfers them to 100

NOTICE two things: 1st: I'm not an expert so, although this works for me, this may not be the best or most secure or most ______ way to do it... and 2nd, that to do this I modified the conf files myself... I gave up on TRIXBOX interface because to really understand (or think you understand) what is really happening behind the scenes (and maybe learn something), you actually need to give up on the EASY and bring on the TOUGH... bring it on!

Also, I found this book (free for those who find it) and this site in general, useful: http://www.asteriskdocs.org/modules/tinycontent/index.php?id=11

Good luck.

Royd, On the signup page,

Royd,

On the signup page, there is a section on the right titled " Signing up with a non-U.S. credit card? ". If you fill out that form and fax it back, we can open your non-US account.

Voicepulse signup an invasion of privacy

I attempted to sign up for the voicepulse trial and I was emailed back a pdf form and requested to fill out the form and fax it back. Among other things it asked for a copy of my driver's license. I consider ID requests such as this that have become so common in recent years to be an outrageous and unacceptable invasion of privacy. I say to voicepulse and any other company that makes such demands IF YOU WANT MY BUSINESS THEN RESPECT MY PRIVACY. We don't live in Nazi Germany or the old Soviet Union where one has to “show their papers” for all variety of every day business. This is a possible violation of your credit card merchant agreement see par 9.11.2:

http://consumerist.com/consumer/csr/mega-update-requiring-minimum...

I got in an argument with a Radio Shack manager over this issue, see this thread

http://nhunderground.com/forum/index.php?topic=6120.0

No one can demand to see a driver's license except a police officer who pulls someone over for a traffic violation!!

wolf, We do in fact respect

wolf,

We do in fact respect the privacy of our users and do not require this additional piece of information from any customers with a US billing address. The form does specify (FOR NON-U.S. CREDIT CARD USERS ONLY) on the page you're referring to, but we will make some changes to ensure future customers are not confused by the form.

We have no intention of relaxing the requirement for overseas customers as the potential for fraud is too high.

Hopefully this answers your concerns regarding privacy and if you'd like to continue verifying your account, we'd be happy to have you as our customer.

mykroft, Yes, it's true that

mykroft,

Yes, it's true that we require a signed copy of our Terms of Service to fully activate your account. Trust us, we would really like to automate simple processes such as sign up! We've tried everything to get credit card companies and banks to enforce online "signatures" (per the E-sign Act). However, without a physical signature, the credit card companies can always reject our fraud claim by saying "well, you don't have a signature, so it's your fault", leaving us with no protection against fraud.

Normally, we would accept this as a cost of doing business, but we have already been hit by fraud in 2005 for a loss of well over $200,000. During a 6-month period, a group of fraudsters signed up for accounts with VoicePulse as well as other providers. They were using IP addresses in the US (PCs they had hacked into) and valid credit card numbers and CVC codes (from widely publicized stolen databases). The credit card companies only offer the most primitive of fraud prevention -- address and CVC code matching. When the fraudulent customers have all of this information, and it's correct, we're helpless to detect these accounts at sign up. At the end of that period, five or more VoIP providers declared bankruptcy or were involved in litigation to avoid paying their debts. VoicePulse was fortunate enough to be able to survive the loss, but it was obvious that we could no longer leave ourselves exposed.

Since implementing a requirement to fax (or scan-and-email) back a signed Terms of Service form two years ago, we have had zero fraudulent accounts. While we may relax some of the requirements in the future, it's hard to overlook the effectiveness of this method. Keeping our level of fraud so low is the only reason we can offer rates below 1¢ to anyone who wants to sign up, without a minimum commitment or multi-year contract.

We hope the minor inconvenience will be offset by our ability to demonstrate that we're putting the money to good use by investing in our infrastructure and support teams, instead of giving free calls to thieves and passing the costs onto our customers.
