VOIP Providers - Current Status?

Hello Everyone, I have not posted here before but have utilized the information provided by many talented individuals. Thank you all for taking the time to explain many things. Knowledge is power.

On to the question I have;

Out of all the VOIP providers out there today, who is the best???

I started out with Broadvoice and ended up with Teliax. I left Broadvoice because they only allowed two calls per trunk. I have the Teliax unlimited plan which allows multiple simultaneous calls. Teliax started out O.K. It has since fell apart. I emailed sales@teliax.com asking if they are out of business because of there lack of response and poor call quality, they have not responded yet. They have two proxies down, NYC and ATL, and have not communicated to me about the status of their return to service.

I am considering Bandwidth.com. It is modestly more expensive than Teliax, and after talking to a sales rep, it seems overly complicated for SIP trunking. The rep indicated I could have more than two simultaneous calls per trunk unless I abused it. Not sure what that means. My big concern with Bandwidth.com is the one year contract and no trial period. What if the call quality is crappy. Will I have to get lawyers involved to cancel the contract?

I have seen many suggestions on this forum about other providers like VOIPStreet, Speakeasy, and many others. As you may know, the process of transferring DIDs, configuring and testing the new system, and everything else in between is not fun. I would like to do it once.

Any suggestions on a good provider would be great. Thank you for your time.

My setup is;

Trixbox v2.6.0.0
IAX2 Trunk to Teliax
LAN Gateway =Linksys 310n running DD-WRT v24-sp1 with HSFC QOS enabled.
FIOS internet connection:
Download speed =9764 Kbps (socket test) QOS limited
Upload speed =9538 Kbps (socket test) QOS limited
Quality of service =94 %
Maximum delay =67 ms
Round trip time =43 ms
Upstream jitter =1.4 ms
Upstream packet loss =0 %
Upstream packet order 100 %
Upstream discards =0 %

I've had similarly poor

I've had similarly poor performance with Teliax lately. I'll be trying out voicepulse if I can ever get my account activated ;)

I also don't like the bandwidth.com method of limiting the number of concurrent calls. I've noticed several ITSP's I've talked with lately do this, and I don't understand it. I am not looking for unlimited usage, I want to pay for what I use, but I want unlimited* scalability. I as well was put off by their 1 year commit, with no trial period!

* I understand that it can't really be unlimited. For my purposes, a max of 10 would be fine.

VIA Talk

I have used viatalk for my business for the last 9 months and have been very happy fo the price. $200 for 2 years unlimited minutes (us/can) 2in2out calls per trunk. I have had two outages the last one lasting for 6 hours. The best thing is that they have a great managment tool so that I had all of my calls automaticly forwarded to my pots line during the outage. I may not have even noticed except that I had forgot to add my pots line as an available dial out trunk....

Voiptalk (UK)

Route all our office out through voiptalk.org in the UK.
Have caller id out and many incoming 0845 DID number.
Good call quality and the customer services is quick when you email them.
We are on a business package with all UK calls free and a cheaper rate to UK mobile and 5 channels per SIP line.
They also provide IAX but SIP works fine for us,
We have used them for 18 months now and extremely happy.
We also pay by direct debit.

viatalk

I should say the call quality is OK but the support is poor. I am using it for quite a few months now. At first, they could not be able to help me for the trixbox setup to get it to work. They provided some script but not enough. But once getting it to work, there is no problem. I noticed occassionally the connection is poor but in general it is about 30ms connection time.
In addition to the 200 dollars for one year plus one year free, you have to pay a monthly charge about 2 dollars.

VoicePulse review

I'm a first time user of VoIP services, but I have been pretty happy with Voice Pulse. I started with them in early September because of the free trial $2 credit they offered, and was planning on moving to Teliax later. I haven't really had a need to add another service yet though. I'm using their IAX2 services out of the east cost since they don't have any IAX switches here on the west coast although SIP connections are available on the west coast. I have seen some outages on 2 weekends some time ago, and didn't get an explanation as to why things were down.

The call quality is good and clear. Rates appear to be pretty good too. You do have to fax them an application, as there is no other way to signup. (They do this to cut down on fraud and claim it is working for them.)

I have not reviewed their DID/Dial in services. Only using them as a dial out provider.

We've used Teliax and Voxitas

Teliax is cheaper, Voxitas a little better reliability. While Teliax has more issues, the also have more features in their portal. Both answer the phone well, but only during business hours. You can always open a ticket online for either and get a good response time. Biggest drawback for Voxitas is they want a 1-3 year contract and have not provided some promised features.

We're still in the market for our "dream" provider, but both of these have performed well for us and our clients. We use Teliax for smaller companies and Voxitas for larger ones.

Stay away from grnVoip

Take a good advise and stay away from it; half the time it simply won´t work, the other half the time, choppy sounds, dropped calls and so. Specially problematic with cell to Mexico

A testimonial for VoicePulse & Callwithus.com

I know that the word "testimonial" is used for a written or spoken endorsements to advertise. Yes, and I will do marketing for voicepulse so the community members at the TB forum will benefit from my experience with Voicepulse. I have signed up with this provider almost two years ago, and i'm still using their superior quality service.
If you look back in 12/14/2006, one user has started a thread that became very long thread talking about including both Sellvoip and Voicepulse modules in trixbox 1.
check this link http://trixbox.org/forums/trixbox-forums/open-discussion/trixbox-...

I have posted a comment two years ago, and I'm still saying the same words about how great voicepulse service is. Unlike the sellvoip at that time which was a horrible company and i think it is still taking newbies money who will get nothing. And I think that post was a reason why those two modules have been removed from freepbx interface. But I'm happy that voicepulse is providing the module for download and installation in Trixbox 2. It makes the configuration of the trunks and DIDs as a piece of cake. Very reliable provider with a superior quality.

Compared to Callwithus, in my opinion ..Voicepulse outperform the call quality/ However, Callwithus has less expensive and more DIDs... even in some other countries than the US. I have noticed that the setup fee and monthly subscription is still expensive in Voicepulse case.

Both are recommended.
