Cisco SPA504G issues

Hi,

Apologies in advance but I've been searching for days and having little luck configuring Cisco SPA504G phones. I'm trying to setup a phone system for our church using Trixbox CE. The server appears to be setup correctly as I have extensions and can register the phones to them. However, the problem I am encountering is getting the phones so that the line buttons will correspond to the actual outgoing POTS lines connected to an internal Digium TDM400 card (4 FXO modules). The goal is to give the phone users a visual indication of line ringing, busy, etc. I've found several 'how-to' articles but they don't really go beyond setting the phone up to connect to a Trixbox server. Nothing I've found talks about setting up the buttons to correspond to trunks. Any help would be very much appreciated.

You can't map buttons to

You can't map buttons to lines, trixbox (and asterisk) don't support "shared line appearances"

You should configure a parking lot and then map a couple of buttons to the parking slots so you can park a call and then pick it up somewhere else.

Shared Line Appearance

Skyking,

Thanks for the quick reply. After reading your post I realized that I didn't know the correct terminology for the feature I was trying to implement. Using the line buttons to map to parking lots would be helpful after a call came in but I am looking for an approach that works more like an old key system.

After searching for Shared Line Appearance I found an article on Asterisk.org that talks about it being implemented in 1.4.1:

http://www.asterisk.org/node/48342

Was this feature removed in a later release?

Thanks,

William

No it has not been removed,

No it has not been removed, the sla module is part of Asterisk.

It doesn't work very well, it is not supported via the GUI and is a general pain to configure, that is from someone who knows Asterisk inside and out.

If you are looking for a key system a PBX is never going to make you happy. FYI SIPxecs does supports this feature with your phones http://www.sipfoundry.org/

Based on what I've read so

Based on what I've read so far it looks pretty difficult to implement and since this is the 1st time I've setup an Asterisk box I don't want to promise a feature that I may not be able to configure. I'm just going to go with your suggestion and setup parking lots for the other line buttons. If you have suggestions on a good way to implement them I would really appreciate it. If there's a good guide or forum post would be helpful. I think I remember seeing a previous post where you mention you came up with a pretty slick parking lot setup but I don't recall where I saw it.

thanks

I might have been talking

I might have been talking about the Aastra scripts.

On the SPA's make sure you have the latest soft installed. You setup the button as type "blf+sd" assuming you are using the default parking lot config register 1 line as slot 71 and one as slot 72.

Lastly program a button and mark it as "fast park" with the a speed dial set as "##70#" this will transfer a call into the parking lot with a single button push.

SLA Work Around

Why don't you guys setup BLF's to monitor parking spaces? Then, on everyone's phone label the parking spaces as 'lines.' No one would know the difference. I got this working, but only me and the warden got phones on my network. I'm running off an OC48 and I told the warden I could supply the whole prison with VoIP service and all they'd need was phones, but they still think their PBX has some life into it. That's cool, I got 26 years! :) When they ready, Arizona DOC gonna be running of trixbox!! Word up.

If anyone want to see my guide to Cisco SPA Configuration, you're welcome to. It's got info about BLF's too. That tutorial is on a different service provider, but it still highlights all the options.
