help with Cisco 7940

I'm trying to install a 7940 phone to AAH 2.2. The phone is new, not sure what firmware it has on it. But when i start it up it hangs on "configuring IP". I can reset by pressing *6settings, but this is all I can do. Settings doesn't respond. I think the problem started when I changed the TFTP to my asterisk server and turned off DHCP.

Any ideas how I can get in there and fix this thing?

Re: help with Cisco 7940

The phone prefers to get an IP from DHCP. Unless it has an IP statically set, without DHCP it will sit there forever.

Re: help with Cisco 7940

Update on the phones. I was able to get one phone to upload the software to SIP 7.4 through the TFTP. However, the other phones are not allowing me to go into the settings menu to change it so that the DHCP is on. When I press settings I get no response and it just sits at Configuring IP.

Can someone tell me how I can get into settings or make the phone upload the firmware from the TFTP?

Re: help with Cisco 7940

I'm still stuck on this problem. I've got 3 phones that I just installed using the configurations on TFTP within Asterisk, so I know the TFTP is correct. But I have 3 more phones that are stuck at "configuring IP". The phones won't let me into settings, I press the button and there is no response. I know the settings button is working though because I can reset the phone by pressing *6settings. Also, I can factory reset by holding the # while I reboot the phone and then pressing 123456789*0#. But that's it.

Can anyone give me suggestions here? or is this phone a big paper weight now.

The Cavalry - late as usual

I realize the thread is quite old, but just for reference for those who still have this issue: The factory reset alone does NOT cut it by my experience. In my case I had to reset AND override the TFTP settings. Check out my solution: http://princechavez.net76.net/?p=39
