So I've been playing around a lot with NerdVittle's TeleYapper. Since I'm running Asterisk 1.0, I've been using TeleYapper 3.0. It's very nice, adn has a lot of potential (both for good and bad), but it needs a front end and an easy way to get it running in asterisk... that's where this come in.

AutoBroadcaster is a module for Trixbox (ala FreePBX) that will perform the following on install:
-Install the (slightly modified) Teleyapper AGI scripts
-Create the required table in the asterisk database
-Create a new Feature code (defaults to *22, can be changed from the standard interface)
-Insert the required dial plans

Once installed, a new menu item will be added to the "PBX Settings" section called "AutoBroadcaster" where you can:
-View the current broadcast groups (0-9)
-Add numbers to the broadcast groups
-Edit numbers
-Delete numbers from the broadcast groups
-Initiate the message broadcast

This replicates all of the functionality of TeleYapper 3.0 with an additional frontend. I'm releasing this into the wild now, as I hope someone else can find a way to integrate this with the System Recordings function, and allow for recordings to be chosen on-the-fly, versus only being able to broadcast a single message without having to record over the previous one.

I've tested this with Asterisk 1.2, and i'm very sure it will not work with anything else as NerdVittles released TeleYapper 4.0 for Asterisk 1.4. Anyone else is welcome to use this code to start with though, as I'm fairly certain the only thing that would need changed is are the AGIs.

ENJOY, but don't spam.

It's not all that scary...

Really, it's not a big deal. Here's what NerdVittles has to say about TeleYapper:

"Licensing. We are retaining ownership of this software as well as the copyright. It is licensed for use under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution Non-Commercial license. A Plain English summary is available here(http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/2.5/). We've done this primarily to do our part to stamp out the telemarketing creeps of the world. Those wishing to use TeleYapper in a commercial environment must first request a license outlining your proposed terms of use. We will promptly respond with a yay or nay. Telemarketers need not apply!"

In other words, it's for non-commercial use only. There are plenty of other uses for a system like this. For instance, we plan on using it as an opt-in school cancelation notification service. A buddy of mine uses it for boy scout meetings.

If you're looking to start a telemarketing campaign, teleyapper isn't for you, but then again it's pretty limited in features so you probably wouldn't use it for that anyway.

yes fantastic

yes well done Josh. great piece of information. this will be great for church groups, schools, and neighbour hood 'watch' groups. basically any 'not for profit' that requires a simple (and free) solution.

Thanks!

Thanks! Good examples of use as well!

As I understand it you offer a good commercial product. I'm just a hobbiest, although I've done a few systems for small businesses. So far however, none have had a need for an autodialer. I just made this to learn how to build a freepbx module. No on to custom AGIs!
