HT-503 as trixbox trunk

Hi...

We recently purchased a HandyTone HT-503, which has one full FXO and one FXS port. Has anyone figured out how to setup the FXO port as a sip trunk to a trixbox server? I see that in the HT503 web interface, both the fxs and the FXO configuration screens are identical and apparently assume these ports are to be connected as SIP extensions and not as trunks.

We have several remote locations that we are linking via internet to our central trixbox server using GS HT496 boxes and setting them up as remote extensions. That works fairly well so far. At one remote location, we would like to use the FXO port in the HT503 to be able to generate calls from the central office to local numbers using a local analog POTS line.

I guess we could setup the fxo port in the HT503 as an extension, and then dial the external number from there but it seems this would bypass all the security and call registration reports in the system.

Setting this as a trunk seems a much better solution. Can anyone help here? I have been trying different options but nothing seems to work.

Thanks
Jaime

What kind of comment are you

What kind of comment are you looking for when you say, "I want a trunk"?

I don't know the handytone but most sip FXO ports need nothing more than a minimal config. As long as they have a static IP the simple trunk represents no security issue.

So...Setup a sip trunk

trunk name: My FXO (or whatever)

host=ip address of gateway
type=friend
context=from-pstn
insecure=very
qualify=yes
disallow=all
allow=ulaw (or whatever you want)

That's it....Set an outbound route and send traffic to it. You should have to do almost nothing on the gateway other than set the ip and a codec. If it's on the same LAN don't mess around with registration or peer names or anything else. It is not needed. The simpler the better.

Here is a post I did a while

Here is a post I did a while back regarding the HT 503. It should give you all the settings you need to get this working.
