SIP Trunks and setup

Hello

I am looking to deploy an IP-PBX system with Trixbox of course. Currently I have been in touch with www.vel.net for SIP trunk service.

Here is where I envision deployment issues because of our current setup at the office. Let me explain.

Current setup is with analog ATT phones (BIS-22D) with an analog PBX and voice mail ( Voice mail recently has failed ). There are THREE numbers / DID at our office. One for fax ( We are going to keep this ) ONE to "my" office and then the third DID is for a separate office in our building.

We have three available incoming lines for simultaneous talking.

When someone calls one of the numbers to our building; Specifically my office numbers, all the phones in the office ring. As for when someone calls the other office number, ALL our phones ring & flash. However, We know its not us because we have their extension marked on our phones and it lights up indicating its theirs.

Upon conversation with VEL.NET for SIP Trunks. They are saying we need FOUR (4) SIP trunks. They are $28 / mo. Includes unlimited inbound, and 6,000 outbound minutes, and all other features.

The part I'm losing the vision is how to map the DID's. Velocity.net said that each trunk can have four (4) DIDs. However, in order to have four simultaneous phone calls, you need a separate trunk.

My thought processes and with research, I found I can just setup either call groups with trixbox, and or just route the DID to desired extensions.

Could anyone point me in the right direction, and or give suggestions to our configuration?

Thanks in advance.

It's up to you

I am terrible at explaining things but I will try my best. First thing is it is really up to you how things work it all depends on what you want the incoming calls to do. Lets say you have 4 DIDs 1111111, 2222222,3333333, and 4444444.

If you want all incoming calls to 1111111 to go to just one extension then simply direct it at one extension. If 2222222 is your Sales line and you have multiple sales people and you want all of them to receive incoming calls on this line then you would want to make a call group and add their extensions to the call group.

I am not sure why they say you need four different trunks for four simultaneous calls. It may be that they refer to each channel as being a trunk but I have never used vel.net. Most of my systems use one trunk, unless they have a fail-over trunk, the trunk will have a set amount of channels. My Cbeyond trunks usually have 5 or 16 channels it just depends on the package used for the client.

I am not sure if I answered your question let me know if I need to try an explain it better.
