can't login to activate

I have an ancient Dell Dimension L500c - 500MHz Celeron, 384 MB, 10GB IDE disk, Digium TDM22P - that I use for Asterisk testing. I have installed various Asterisk ISOs on this machine, including most recently trixbox 2.2. Today I installed trixbox pro 1.0.0, and the install seemed to go just fine. After rebooting, the login prompt comes up with

inactive login:

and, as directed, I try to login as user "activate". That doesn't work. The display flashes with a complete screen of text that is much too brief to read, and then it goes back to the login prompt. I also tried to login with ip/ip, but I guess that only works after activation.

Technically this machine doesn't meet the stated minimum requirements to run trixbox pro. Is this what is preventing me from activating? (The machine has an IP address and responds to ping.) Any hints on how to see what all those messages are saying?

By the way, I read the trixbox pro installation guide, and it covers a lot of detail, but it doesn't seem to have a word about the initial login or activation. Coming attractions, I'm sure.

Thanks!

Lester

Hi Lester

Lester,

I am trying to get you an answer, but my tech team has gone home for the night. We will get a reply in the morning. Until then, have you tried pressing pause (does that work anymore) on your keyboard, and then taking a screenshot of what it says?

If you could a screenie posted, that would help us a lot in answering your question.

Hi Lester,

I'll get in touch with you via PM and we can determine what's happening at activation time and whether it's hardware related or not.

Thanks,

activate problem

same problem as above, but my hardware exceeds specs... thought this was a network problem. i have static ip's already programmed in my server, but was concerned that dhcp was needed to gain access to web for this activation. changed to dhcp and no changes here

is there a fix on this now? can this be activated locally by downloading a license and manually installing? pls advise

activation

OK did you go to buy.trixbox.com and do the download or activate server??
You will get an email with the user name and password

You will then use that to login...
It will then take a few more mins to install the install and setup the VPN
If you have the box behind a router / firewall you may wish to put in the DMZ zone until it is setup.

i have put my server in a DMZ zone, neither of my usernames from trixbox.com (I went through the signup process again) works "Login Incorrect", nor does typing in 'activate' at the prompt as it says when it first appears, it flashes then returns to the login prompt.

at the "inactive" prompt, the instructions are to type "activate" at the login. i have tried to do that, and i have also tried the login and password that are supplied through the buy.trixbox.com site. when entering "activate" at the prompt, the screen flashes as described in earlier posts. when the buy.trixbox.com credentials are entered, it reports a login failed, as if it does not like the credentials...

Hi guys, Let me address you

Hi guys,

Let me address you guys individually (hopefully this can help others out there, as well!):

groovetrain and jackt,
The first thing to do is to determine whether this is the same problem or not, and what the problem is specifically.

To do so, let's get you guys into single user mode on the trixbox Pro system to set a root password.
1) Start up or reboot your trixbox Pro system.
2) After a few seconds, when you see the "Booting trixbox Pro...", press "ENTER".
3) You'll see a "GNU GRUB" window and a selected line. Press the "e" key.
4) On the new screen, hit the down arrow until the "kernel" line is highlighted.
5) Press the "e" key to edit the kernel line.
6) You will now be at the end of the kernel line. Type in " single", and be SURE to place a space beforehand!
7) Press "ENTER" to return to the previous screen.
8) Press "b" to boot up your system into single user mode.
9) Your system will load to a "sh#" prompt. Type "passwd" and set a root password (you will need to enter it twice).
10) Type "reboot" after you've set your password.
11) Once your system reboots, at the inactive login, enter the username "root" and the password you set.
12) Type "/Fonality/activate.pl". At this point, you should be able to see the output of the activation program.
13) To send the output to yourself, run: "/Fonality/activate.pl | mail your@email.com". Be sure to post the output here so we can have a look!

albuck, you will want to follow this piece as well.

Now, if you find that you're seeing this message:
Can't locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC

try running:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"'
When prompted whether you want to configure, type "no".

This should install the Term::ReadKey module, although that should already be installed with a healthy ISO download and install. Thus, it's possible that you ended up with a possibly corrupt ISO.

Once done installing, you can type "exit", and then login again using the "activate" command and continue the instructions on the screen.

Please let me know how this goes for you guys!

Thanks,
samy

Corrupt image download is a no go

Hello all,

Wanted to tell of my experience and save others time.

I had some issues connecting to the download link for a while, but when I finally downloaded it, I had the same problem as original poster here.

I found this message after trying on several different machines yesterday with no success.

I followed the instructions carefully posted by sammy but sadly to no avail.

I'm sorry that I cannot tell you the mirror that mine came from but several issues existed on the iso I downloaded that could not be resolved by the above steps so I followed the link in this post http://drupal.trixbox.org/forums/trixbox-pro/general-information/... for the torrent option http://www.intermelt.net/trixboxPro-1.0.0.iso.torrent ** requires utorrent client and was able to download it again.

Everything seems to be working fine now.

I'm sharing my connection for a while to distribute the iso via the above torrent until some other becomes available that doesnt need utorrent

How can I log in to activate ? trixbox-pro

Hello Sammy,

I followed your instructions to the point where I ran:
/Fonality/activate.pl

The most significant part of the output is: "Can't locate locate Term/ReadKey.pm in @INC

I will apply the second part of your post:

try running:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"'

I will report back if successful or not.

30 minutes later.......
After running: perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"'

ERROR:

make: *** [ReadKey.o] Error 127
make had returned bad status, install seems inpossible

md5sum and byte count for ISO file

I'm sorry for delaying updating this thread. I thought someone from Fonality would post the md5sum for people with corrupt ISO downloads. Maybe it was posted in another thread I didn't follow.

Apparently there was at least one corrupt download circulating in the intense download period immediately after trixbox Pro launch. If you have any weird behaviour, here is how to tell if you have a good download of the ISO bits.

The download page is:
http://www.trixbox.com/products/trixbox-pro/download/

Alas, this page (still) does not contain a byte count or an md5sum. Fonality does have the md5sum online, though I could not find it linked anywhere:

http://download.trixbox.com/tbpro/iso/trixboxPro-1.0.0.iso.md5 contains:

a895037345042b77915bbb4ac7a637d8 trixboxPro-1.0.0.iso

My good ISO download is 723,298,304 bytes.

I hope this helps others avoid going too far with a corrupt download. After I got a good download, it works great.

Best regards,

Lester

oseverin, Sounds like you

oseverin,

Sounds like you have a bad ISO. Go ahead and compare the ISO with the checksum albuck posted above and you should discover it's corrupt. A fresh download of a good copy should resolve that for you!

Let me know how it goes!

Maxiflight, Can you please

Maxiflight,

Can you please follow my instructions on trying to resolve that error in my earlier post?

Maxiflight / oseverin, additionally if you could paste me more of any errors you receive when attempting an install of the module via the "perl" line I pasted, that would be very helpful. Additionally, if you PM me, I would be happy to investigate further by ssh'ing to the system if you set up a basic user account. Let me know if you would like me to look.

jnelson2000, Have you

jnelson2000,

Have you confirmed that the ISO you have downloaded matches the checksum listed at http://www.trixbox.com/products/trixbox-pro/download/:

MD5 checksum:a895037345042b77915bbb4ac7a637d8

and is 723298304 bytes.

With the correct ISO, you should not be having these problems.

If you follow the directions listed in the posting titled "Hi guys, Let me address you" from Samy, particularly the portion about using CPAN to install Term::ReadKey, can you proceed with the activation?

Yes, the checksum is

Yes, the checksum is correct. I have used the same ISO to install this 5 times on another box. Also did the CPAN perl command line, said no to configure and received an error about it didn't know what Readkey was.

All, If you are receiving

All,

If you are receiving the Term/ReadKey error, please read my original instructions and try the following at the root prompt:
perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"'

If it does not work for you, please include the entire output. Or better yet, iif you are able to DMZ or port forward port 22 (ssh) and set a root password, please PM me and I would be happy to investigate further! If someone who is able to reproduce this issue can get me into their system via ssh, we'll make sure to get this problem resolved. We have not been able to reproduce this issue in our lab, so any access to a system that this is occurring on will help.

Hey guys, We're still

Hey guys,

We're still investigating this! At this point, we're waiting for a new system to come in where we think we can reproduce the problem which will help us quickly discover the issue and resolve it!

What would help is if any of you with this issue PM me with your server's hardware configuration. Any correlation we can make would be beneficial at this point, as well as ssh access if that's possible. jnelson was kind enough to also provide this access, however now we need to correlate and understand what's causing this.

Basic details of the issue are that not all RPMs are being fully written to the disk. One RPM fails to install due to it not all being there, and of course a number of things will fail.

I'll be updating you guys with our progress!

Thanks,
samy

I've solved

It's not a corrupted iso ¬¬
Trixbox pro is without gcc, so...
If you've executed perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"' and received make: *** [ReadKey.o] Error 127

You must execute: yum install gcc

After that execute: perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"'

Now... you can validate ;)

doesnt WORK

hello guys
I made so many pbx's with trixbox that I cant even remember.
since I saw the pro version I started working on it, everytime I download an ISo and install it, there are many problems...file missing, activation problems, this ..and that...and whatever...I dont know..but I will love to see it working without fonality intervertion...I was planning to signup as reseller, but after so many troubles, (plus the reseller requiriments and the certifications $$$) I dont even know if I want to use this version, on the top of that, this is a pro version that ofcourse is on a different direction looking at activations. so this is becoming "regulated and controlled" like microsoft. if you can't or you don't want to activate online---your system will be useless---period.
if you get the paid version, it have to be nice....but what about the prices per users?....what do we have here that we cant get somewere else...?
hhhmmm...I dont know what to say...trixbox--fonality and everyone there have made a great job doing this (I guess), so I encourage others to try , and try, and try....see if is going to work....so far, I will keep using CE, that I can install configure, setup and have it working with 20 extensions, 10 trunks, remote extensions, promt menu... and all that stuff in betwen 2 to 6 hours.

like I said, I dont like to get behind, but...this is going on diferent direction.

IT WORKS!!!

Im back...
after some new installs, since I dont have too much time during the week working as a genitorial, I have to do whatever during the weekend.
it works, very nice, but, there is just one detail: DO I HAVE TO USE cp.trixbox.com always to access to my PBX?
what about if this link doesnt work one day?...what about the connection getting slow?...what about if I want to administre from inside my network because my PBX Vlan doesnt use or have internet..because if by mistake get's updated, then it will be the caos like some other versions after the updates.?
I will take some sleep, and comeback tomorrow, I hope there will be a way of administrate the PBX locally, if not....brrrr.....tieme wasted!! (for me)

later ...2all

Hi Samy When I install

Hi Samy

When I install trixbox Pro I have a problem with message at the "inactive" prompt, the instructions are to type "activate" at the login. i have tried to do that, and i have also tried the login and password that are supplied through the buy.trixbox.com site. when entering "activate" at the prompt, the screen flashes something and nothing happens, returning to the prompt.

I did do all things describes before till perl -MCPAN -e 'install "Term::ReadKey"', like Samy Kamkar guide us but.... no way.

When I downloaded trixbox pro first time, I did it through bitcommet 0.97 (a kind of torrent downloader) and when finished comes a error that hash code was not right, so I deleted and restart download. when finished for 2nd time same message.
I opened CryptoTools and tried to see MD5 hash code, but no success.
Then I kept ISO file anyway.

I burn a CD whit NEro 7 and a error comes again, (something like "burn error") but it did install.

Looks to be a error in ISO file that comes from Fonality

Try just downloading it

Try just downloading it using Firefox or IE. It certainly sounds like a bad download or a bad burn.
