Checking for internet connection won't work

After installing the ISO on my Trixbox PRO, I have to 'register' and check for an internet connection.
It says:
Checking for internet connection (may take several minutes)...[FAILED]
ERROR:Unable to connect to external host. This is typically due to an IP configuration or network issue.
1. Test your connection again
2. Re-configure your IP settings
But it willn not work, whatever I try...
Help...

When you configure your internet connection, do you see that it is getting an IP address from your DHCP server? On bootup do you see an error starting up eth0?

It is not getting an IP address from the DHCP server (but it finds the IP of the DCHP server, 192.168.1.130, which is correct...)

It sounds like a network problem not a software problem. Did it accept the IP address? Were you able to ping the box from another machine once the IP address was set?

I re-installed trixbox pro on the same machine
then magically the IP problem wasn't there anymore
but I misunderstood the registration process, therefore I had to restart again and now it isn't working anymore... again...

I've rebooted the system several times and after the 8th time it worked... The system got an IP address... Hope it will work after the next reboot

I just installed a trixbox Pro on a new server. Motherboard is a Gigabyte with an onboard Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Ethernet controller. After installing trixbox Pro and entering the user Activate I am getting a message:
eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found
Then after checking for internet connection it sends back:
/sbin/ifup: configuration for eth0 not found.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm not to familiar with Linux but from what I have researched I think it may be a missing driver? I found this page for the NIC with downloads for Linux, but I need a little instruction on how to go about installing them if this is the problem. http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&P...
I researched about configuring Ethernet in trixbox but everything seems to be based on the previous release where you are prompted for a password and trixbox skips that step now. So I'm a liitle lost. Please help!!! Thanks!!!

Realtek 8110SC Gigabit Ethernet controller is not compatiable with this version of Trixbox. We turned off the onboard nic and installed a $9 nic and it works perfect.
 
Able to work past that with PCI Card

I was able to work past that problem by picking up a Netgear GA311 NIC PCI card from Best Buy for $30. I checked the chipsets of what was available off the shelf from the local big box stores. This one has a Realtek 8169 chipset. My onboard LAN was a Realtek 8110 which apparently wasn't supported by the Centos 4.x server software included with trixbox pro. (I believe Centos 5.x has the upgraded chipset support) Here is some info on the Centos Server hardware support http://wiki.centos.org/HardwareList/

Now I am just trying to get past trying to find an internet connection. Current network configuration was unable to assign IP to trixbox server so I set static IP, subnet mask of my last router in the chain (Wireless, but wired to trixbox), and gateway of the DSL router used to get internet service. I left the DNS server as the wireless router and have no success. i am about to pull the wireless router out of the mix to see if the double routers is the problem. My main problem is I can't acces web management of my Allied Telesis AT-IMG624 gateway. When our ISP set up the system, they mst have changed the admin password and I can't get in when going to 192.168.5.1. I use admin and admin for user and pw as well as admin no pw but it still won't let me in. Anyone know how to reset the Allied router to factory defaults or have another idea for user pw combos for this device?
I would still like to get the onboard chipset working so I will have double NIC on this server for the future so if anyone can give me guidance on updating the Centos Server to get the drivers for the Realtek 8110 I'd appreciate it.

I am trying to activate Pro and having similar problems.
I get the error "Unable to connect to external host.", etc. The nic autoconfigured fine, but I went ahead and did a static IP and no difference. I can ping the box fine from another machine on the network, so I have no idea what the problem is.
It is on an internal network, but all traffic is allowed OUT.
Any ideas?!

Hi, I don't know if you have solved this yet, I am having the same problem with the gigabit network drivers. I have done a little research and apparently the problem is that Centos doesn't support the RTL8110SC ethernet card yet. You have to get the drivers from realtek and re-compile the kernel to get it working. This is behond me so if anybody as a solution it would be very appreciated.

there is a driver disk image and aRPM of the revised kernel, if anybody has any luck let me know, linux isn't my thing so i don't have a clue yet.....still learning

You were lucky. It asked me for an internet connection and I had no idea how to set it up. I called the guys at Hughesnet for pointers and tips and they said they never used a trixbox so they have no idea how to make the internet connection work. I found the solution to that problem here, on trixbox.org. Thank you all for giving as noobs pointers.
