Our company have thrown the idea around of finding a new PBX system to replace our current Cisco Call Manager system and I have suggested Trixbox and they have been intrigued by it. I am wondering however, how difficult would it be to transfer/merge from CCM to Trixbox Pro with existing 7940's, 60's and 12's phone extensions, ATA's and FAXES into Trixbox? Is there any limitations we should be aware of or does anyone have any insight on who have done a large scale deployment from CCM to Trixbox.
200+ phones from existing CCM to Trixbox? insight?
trixbox Pro does not support Cisco phones. You need to use the community edition. So it is completely free.
Do you have an Open Source policy in your organization? Do you use any other Open Source applications?
The SIP software for the Cisco 7940's and 60's is different than SCCP. You should convert a few and setup a server in a lab. See if you can live with some of the changes.
The cost savings is dramatic. I would suggest using an experienced consultant to make sure everything is addressed.
Faxing with asterisk is like some sort of crap shoot voodoo. Some people have the juju and can make faxing work 100% and others lack the juju and are lucky to ever see a fax go through. It all relates to your patience level. I know in house we can fax via ATA's or paper clips and bubblegum we have had awesome luck with no serious effort. That said have worked on thousands of systems and our in house experience is often the exception not the rule. For faxing your best bet is to have a direct to the CO connection ie: DMARK FAX MACHINE. Your second best bet would be to have an real FXS port off of your server.
Remember, the CCM will do bridged/shared extension appearances and Asterisk/Trixbox will not. If you have a lot of boss/secretary phones with shared extension appearances, you can't replicate that with Asterisk. That alone has killed many a conversion to Asterisk based systems.
