Does anyone happen to know when the Aastra 6739i phones will start shipping? Looking around on the web, they only seem to be available for pre-order.

Has anyone had an opportunity to review one of these units? If so, what did you think of it?

Thanks!

I have been on pre-order

I have been on pre-order with my distributor. Should be any day now.

I know they still have rubber keys and don't tilt high enough.

Certainly they complete the Aastra line nicely. We only sell three phones now the 6731i, the 6755i and the 6757i

I am sure we will be adding the 6739i to our portfolio soon.

excellent screen

We've had the opportunity through a beta program to test one of these units out for the past few months... it has an amazing screen, and blows Polycom and Cisco colour LCD screens away entirely. Very high-res screen, touch-screen works well. XML apparently isn't 100% yet, but that will be coming up in a later firmware. Picture Caller ID is awesome, it can use a central repository on the network to display people's pictures for Caller ID (so all your phones can have the same pictures displaying).

Built-in Bluetooth works very well, we've used a number of different headsets with it without issues.

It still uses the standard 5xi series frame, so as Skyking pointed out, it still has the rubber buttons and tilting/angle issues. Half the buttons have now been converted to the touchscreen, so its not as big an issue.

With the large screen the phone itself "appears" to be a big bulky phone, but its physically identical to the 5xi series frame.

We are now pushing this phone as the Executives phone in all our proposals, I think it will round out Aastra's offerings nicely.

Thanks, Skyking and nucleon!

I've been considering one of these for testing since I first learned about them. Currently, all our employees are using the 57i. The Aastras are a far cry from the old WIN440CT phones we had before.

Thanks for your input! I think I'm going to have to get one on order... :)

Got one on my desk :-)

Mine arrived from my distributor today... having a few little glitches with the sidecar but the phone itself is very nice. Sound quality is awesome.

What sidecar are you using? I was unaware of the color sidecar.

I have not seen a production unit yet, should have mine on Monday or Tuesday.

I just got a couple yesterday - they're looking pretty good so far.

The bluetooth capability is the biggest feature in my mind an it works like a charm. I also like the ease with which end users can add/change the softkeys. The permanent call history button is a big plus as well.

WTG Aastra!

Now to setup the XML template...

Aastra phones rock! I have about 400 of these out there now over the past 3-4 years, I cant remember ever getting one back as faulty. New firmware has improved the speakerphone quality, which to me was never proper full dulpex, and the only thing left now is the problem that only allows the sidecar to do 50 BLF monitors.

I know I sound like a broken record:

There are two major design issues:

1 - The rubber keys (solid keycaps feel more substantial)
2 - Increase Tilt range (Aastra Engineer claim that any additional tile will causes issues with microphone)

Aastra 6739i / Administrator's Guide

I'm glad to see that these are starting to trickle in to the outside world. I ordered one about a week ago (it's back-ordered, naturally) and can't wait to see what it can do.

Does anyone know if there's an administrator's guide for these phones, yet? Looking at Aastra's website, they only have some release notes, a brochure, and the XML development guide. I'm guessing their close enough to the other 67xxi series that it shouldn't be a problem.

Got mine today. Awesome phone!

I've had a bit of an issue with my bluetooth headset (Plantronics Voyager Pro) i've had it literally drop out during a call. The volume on bluetooth also seems to be low.

The other problem is that I have this nice fancy lcd screen, and when it's idle, it's just black. How do we put a companies logo on that huge screen??

Other than that, awesome phone, compares nicely to the Cisco 525G!

I should clarify the

I should clarify the comparison to the 525g, it has a color screen and 5 lines, but definitely doesn't compare screen wise.

However, the 525g has a ton more functionality in the web gui. For example I can configure bluetooth from the gui, scan for headsets etc. I can't do that with this phone. yet.

As far as my headset issue, it has more to do with hanging up. It doesn't disconnect with the plantronics headset properly. Minor glitch.

I've been running the 525g for awhile and it's works very very well. I'm looking forward to seeing what we can make this phone do now too!

Does anyone know what the two small silver contacts for the handset are for? they are located where the mic would lay.

Possible bluetooth handset in the future?? that would be cool!

I've been told the two silver contacts are a charging circuit "for future use".

Select Background

I am going to start on a script that allows you to change the background. I will post it as soon as I have something that works.

My latest challenge is the dial plan dos not work as expected. Using either the GUI or the config file no matter how long I wait I have to press dial. This should not be!

Dial Plan

Skyking,

I'm not having that problem with 10-digit dial on my 6739i. I'm guessing this is what you're talking about. Here's what we're using in aastra.cfg:

sip dial plan: "1[2-9]XXXXXXXXX|[2-9]XXXXXXXXX|x+#|xx+*"

Maybe that will help?

The dial plan syntax is the same for any other North American Terminal from Aastra. I appreciate the examples, however I still am having issues.

I have investigated further today and found out that if you select a line key and dial the dial plan works, however if you hot dial from the keypad you must press dial.

How to get the Caller ID picture working

Hello People,

I have a small question , how to get the caller ID picture working on the Aastra 6739i? we are testing the phone now on our Opencom platform.
i'm using a TFTP server for the phone, for the firmware etc. thats all working., im using png files with the right dimensions and the right name example ( 22.png ) for the intern caller 22.
i put the png files into the TFTP server. but i still get a blue picture when 22 is calling.

I think i need to make a rule in the config file, so the 6739i know where to get the png files??
or do i have it all wrong??

can someone who got the picture ID calling works , tell me how to get it work ??

thanks for the information.

Kind, regards,

Jarno Smits

the Netherlands.

First aAstra ever used (6739i) - 9 prepend in dialplans

Using Dialplan XXXXXXX,9 does not prepends 9 to seven number dial strings in a 6739i? any ideas why is this happening??

No Service?

I get the same at the begininig of the configuration, have corrected it with the following:

You need to provide Proxi Server, Outbound Server, Registrar Server and Conference Server addreses (no matter if they are all the same address), No Backup Proxi or Registrar are required and you can leave the ports with the default (0) value all these have to be configured on Global Sip Settings - Basic Sip Network Settings.

Besides that I recommend:
Phone Number = Sip Server UserName
Caller ID = Extension Number
Authentication Name = Sip Server Username
Password = Sip Server Password

No more "No Service" label will be bothering you

Ulisez, Thanks for your

Ulisez,

Thanks for your reply! You are right, as soon as i remove the "registrar" server, the No Service label disappears. However, i also lose the ability to receive phone calls (calling out still works).

So either i have "no service" and can call normally, or no "no service" and unable to call. Seems like a contradiction. ;)

I don't know if it is possible for you to send me your local.cfg and server.cfg, and perhaps the sip configuration of asterisk for this phone?

I still don't know why the same configuration for a 57i doesn't work for the 39i. Aastra doesn't reply to a support call either. I'm about to return this phone to the shop.

Don´t using .cfg files, (so i´m unable to send it to you) I´ve made the configuration manually through the web Ui and through the phone Ui and going from the default configuration of the phone, and mine is working, receiving and doing calls and without the annoying "no service" label. For your guidance my sip server is located in the local ip address 182.168.1.33 and I set the phone Proxi Server, Outbound Server, Registrar Server and Conference Server (all of them) to that particular ip address, Backup Proxi and Back up Registrar remain empty. I didn´t choose any proxi, outbound, registrar or conference server port, just leave it "0" value. Hope this help you.

Nope, doesn't work, i still get the No Service.

Actually, you can get the local configuration in a text file. Go to the Troubleshooting menu, there is a "get local.cfg" with a save-button. This puts all the locally-made configuration options (that you entered in the web-interface), and puts them in a text file. This is great for troubleshooting. You can also use these options as a basis for server-based configuration, by putting it on a tftp-server.

If you could post the resultst of that file here, that would be great. Then i know for sure i have the same config as you do. :)

Response of the hard keys

Does anybody have any problem with the hard keys response (keypad) - you have to press them twice for it to work?

No Service

I tried a bunch of settings settings to fix the No Service issue, the one that I think fixed this for me was to disable Rport (RFC 3581) in the Network Settings section of the WebUI.

Buletooth Functionality

I was thinking about getting this phone, but wanted to know how the bluetooth head set functionality works. Does it work like a cell phone? i.e. Where I can wear the headset on my ear all day, and when my phone rings, the blue tooth rings in my ear as well? When I press the talk button on my headset, will it answer the phone call? Then I press the talk button agian to hang up the phone? I want to answer calls without being at my phone. I know I wont see caller id, but thats the least of my concerns. So if it works like a cell phone, kewl.

Or, does it work like the 5xi series where I have to press the speaker/headset button to answer?

New firmware

This morning i noticed that a new firmware was available (3.0.1). It solved my problem, the "no service" is finally gone. Phew. The release notes mentioned something about "no service" appearing when DNS lookups failed. Perhaps that was my problem, since i used ip addresses, and it tried to look up addresses it didn't need to lookup? I don't know.

Oh, and don't forget to do a factory reset *after* upgrading the firmware (make a note of your settings or local.cfg if you don't use server-based configuration).

New Firmware - same problem "No service"

Damn, I upgraded with new FW, but still the same problem. I also did a factory reset after upgrade - still "No service" (but the phone registered to the sip server).

@RefriedNoodle - Could you send me you local.cfg and server.cfg to black187[at]gmail.com?
Maybe there is still a problem with my configuration (although I have it at minimum - just SIP global settings)

False alarm...

...it's still not working. I thought the "no service" disappeared, but the phone stopped working altogether.

It's funny: when the sip lines say "registered" in the web interface (and the phone is working), the display says "no service" and vice versa. I'm starting to believe that the "no service" on the display might be unrelated to SIP, but perhaps to some kind of XML service it is expecting while the phone is idle? The phone works otherwise perfectly, and the config i use is the same as for a 57i, which also works perfectly (but does not show "no service"). Fiddling with the RPORT setting did not help.

Black187: i'll send you my config.

Someone else on the forum gave me this tip, coming straight from Aastra themselves: add "sip contact matching: 2" to the config. I don't know what this does specifically (it is not documented anywhere), but it solved my problem.

Background is an XML

Background is an XML document.

This is a bit complicated for an end user but is fully discussed in the XML developers guide.

The next release of the Aastra XML scripts will hopefully provide user control over background images.

The latest release fixes issues with XML app compatibility and the 6739i
