Phones rebooting constantly

Anybody come across this.

Using latest firmware 2.4.1 and latest XML scripts with the patch1 - phones are setup and working, then come in the next day and phones are now continuously rebooting. This is happening on multiple 55i's.

The phone starts up, grabs an IP address, goes thru the rest of it's checks and then as soon as it gets to the normal display, a second or 2 later, it reboots.

The only way to prevent this is to disconnect the network cable, skip the DHCP and then the phone will not reboot.

In this (disconnected) state, if one plugs in the network cable, 1 or 2 seconds later the phone reboots itself.

Even after reseting to factory defaults, the phone reboots as soon as the network cable is connected.

and all appeared fine and working

How long are your DHCP

How long are your DHCP leases?

I think there was an issue with the phones rebooting if they received a very long dhcp lease.

Good thought but we have no

Good thought but we have no control over the DHCP lease time - It is coming from a Linksys firewall/router which is providing IP's to the rest of the network - without problems and certainly longer than a few seconds.

We also tried setting a static IP address, but that didn't make any difference, as even with the static address, as soon as we connected the network cable it rebooted.

We did track the issue down to potentially being a switch issue - if we plugged the phones directly into the main switch, they would not reboot, if we plugged them into a secondary switch, hanging off the main one, they rebooted.

I've never seen anything like this before on a network though, but it must be some funky packet that is causing the units to reboot. Not sure if this is a firmware issue or something that Aastra should be looking into..

The switch is the culprit -

The switch is the culprit - we removed the switch completel from the network and now all is ok.

Strange - there must be some broadcast traffic happening on the switch which causes the Aastra's to reboot - probably means that there is a bug in the Aastra network stacko rimplementation but how does one go about capturing this and getting it fixed?

You'll need to gather the

You'll need to gather the following information and open a ticket with support. I know you probably don't need such

1. Switch model and firmware version
2. Any pertinent switch configuration - network related settings
2. A simple diagram of your network configuration - showing how the various boxes are connected on your network (eg if the phone is connected directly to the problematic switch)
3. An Ethernet capture of the the messages that are being sent to the phone on startup
(a) Install Wireshark on a PC
(b) Find a hub and connect your PC and phone to it and plug the uplink into the problematic switch
(c) If you don't have a hub, just plug the PC directly into the switch and capture the packets when it gets a DHCP address (this might help a bit but not overly likely)
4. Any configuration settings your using on the phone. After the factory default did you point the phone back at your configuration server?
5. Details of when in the startup process the phone reboots - ie what's displaying on the screen
6. Any changes that could have triggered the reboots starting - eg network changes, configuration changes, firmware upgrades, etc.
7. Now that you've got the phone connected again, are there any crashes reported on the troubleshooting page? If so, then include the crash log file.

Once you've done that, PM me the ticket number and I'll have a look.

FYI the DHCP issue that nizon mentioned only happens if the lease time is really huge (in the region of 10 years+) and I've never see a lease like that from you basic home router/firewall.
