Problem with Aastra 57i phones automatically answering calls

We have 25 extensions, a mix between Snom phones and Aastra 57i's. We have this strange problem that only seems to happen on the Aastra endpoints. Some callers, when they hit the IVR, dial an extension and the call is immediately answered without any user intervention. People are bugging out when all of a sudden there is someone from the outside saying "Hello, Hello?" on their speakerphone. It seems that some customers who call always go straight to the speaker.

Does anyone have any idea what would cause this to occur?

Thanks,

Paul

Cannot reproduce would need some traces

I tried to reproduce your issue and did not succeed. Anyway if the phones goes off-hook it is because he received an auto-answer in the SIP invite, now where does this come from I don't know.

So I would like you to trace the SIP invite sent to the phone after a transfer from the IVR, one way to do it is to use ethereal on the PC where you have a softphone I don't think Asterisk sends a special INVITE when it is an Aastra phone, the better way would be to get traces of what is sent to the phone.

Also we could maybe trace what Asterisk does when the transfer is performed. Anyway we need traces to investigate further.

If you are not using Intercom you may also consider disable the auto-answer feature on the phone but it would be better to understand what's going on.

Best I can do right now.

Thanks for trying! I have a ticket open and the tech with whom I spoke advised me to do the same thing, so that's what I'm doing. Disabling the intercom isn't really an option, it's used quite extensively. We'll see what happens, I'm sure we'll find the source eventually!

BTW, when are the newly updated scripts coming out? Still mid month?

Have this same problem with my aastras.
The phones auto answer randomly, even when there is no Alert-Info header in the SIP invite.

Disabling intercom is also not an option (it gets used frequently).

I'll try and collect some packet dumps...

Well we have found a way to reproduce this.

Step 1: Call extension with Alert-info header. Phone auto answers as it should.
Step 2: Call without header. Pick up the phone manually then hang up. Phone does not auto answer on this call.
Step 3: Call phone again without header. Phone answers on it's own.

Step2 seems to be required to reproduce this.

We recently identified small

We recently identified small number of glare scenarios in 2.4.0 (and earlier) that could result in the phone not completely removing the previous call information. If one of these glare scenario was hit for an intercom call, then a subsequent call could randomly be auto-answered.

Release 2.4.1 should be much better behaved, in fact up until yesterday I thought we'd found and fixed all the problem scenarios. However, I have now found another scenario which is still causing problems. The good news is that it should be a really rare scenario and we've already identified a fix for this that will be in the upcoming 2.5.0 release.

Nizon,

Release 2.5.0 is scheduled for release in March, but it's just hitting beta now, so that may change.

However, since I don't have logs for you're case I can't tell if it will resolve your issue. I'd hope not, but you could be experiencing another issue completely.

Where could I get the beta firmware?

Thanks!

firmware upgrade

can not seem to upgrade 55i phone. Held off upgrading after reading this post, but now that 2.5 is available, I have tried. Currently running 2.2.1.25. When I try to upgrade, phone goes into continuous reboot loop. Had to go into web recovery mode. Re-installing from here give same result. Had to go back to original firmware load to recover.

Just wanted to add to the discussion. I've got a customer experiencing this problem as well. Their office has about 15 55i's and so far only one is experiencing the issue. I believe all of the phones are running v2.5.0.82 of the firmware. Has anyone had any success in figuring out whats going on here?

No success figuring out why

No success figuring out why the problem was occurring.

In my instance, the incoming calls hit a ring group of 5-7 phones.

Originally the first extension with the problem was removed from the ring group. Problem solved there right?

Immediately another extension starting auto-answering, seeing it wasn't just a "bad phone" problem, I setup a sys-log server to capture the phone logs for the problem extension.

Since setting up the monitoring process, I have not had the problem with the 2nd bad extension. The 1st bad extension isn't part of the ring group yet either, so no answers on any of this.

Except for a 1GB of phone logs. =(

I went into some of the phone configuration files and removed duplicate entries that were commented out. It may or may not have helped, but we don't seem to have the autoanswering problem anymore.

Capturing the phone traffic was impossible. The user just does not report the problem accurately enough.

This is still happening to me. Now it's happening to the president of the company's phone. Just like the above user stated, capturing phone traffic isn't feasible for this problem since it doesn't happen every day and he doesn't always tell me right away. Does Aastra have any idea what the cause of this is?

I really want to love these phones, 90% of the time they're great.

I had this issue

occurring about one to two times per week on one extension. I replaced the phone first and when it did not resolve the problem I saved the phones config file, deleted the extension from the system, applied changes to force FreePBX to reload, re-created the extension and put the phones config file back in /tftpboot then plugged in the phone. I have not had a complaint from that user in two weeks. FYI I am running 90+ extensions on:

Aastra 6757i Firmware 2.4.0.96
Trixbox 2.6.0.0-14
Asterisk 1.4.18-3
Cent OS 5.0 kernel 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5 (SMP)

Hope that helps

Glenn
