GXP-2010's lock up randomly.
We have 24 grandstream GXP-2010 phones. At random, phones will completely lock up and you have to unplug the phone and plug it back in to get it to start responding again.
We also have a problem with our paging system locking up as well. Our paging system consists of a GXP-2010 set in headset mode with a cable plugged in to the headset jack on the side, and auto-answer turned on. When someone dials the extension to the phone, it automatically picks it up and the call is heard over the loudspeakers in the building when it is working. However, sometimes, after a person making the page hangs up there phone, the hangup process doesn't seem to register. This causes the paging to stop working and also takes the phone making the page offline. If you look on the screen of the handset connected to the amplifier, it shows an ongoing call timer. The phone that was calling it shows a normal idle screen, but will no longer dial out or recieve calls in. Pressing the End Call button on the paging phone or using the SOFT HANGUP ... command from the asterisk CLI are the only ways to get both phones to start responding again.
What is causing the phones to lock up. and what is causing the paging setup to get "stuck" like this? Is it something incorrectly setup on the trixbox? Or do I just need to go buy some aastra's, Polycoms, Ciscos?
What software version are you running on the phones?
I had this and so many other problems with all Grandstream firmware releases on both my GXP-2010 and GXP-2020 phones. The lockup problem seems to stem from many different things, mainly from BLF, XML idle screen, and G.722 codec (using this caused some really weird problems). The last stable firmware I used was revision 1.1.6.16. Anything released after that seems to cause lockups.
I use Polycoms now...
I have one GXP2020, the firmware is running 1.2.1.4, this is the latest firmware from Grandstream.
It works perfect for me, maybe you need post this question on Grandstream offical forum.
I have posted on numerous occasions to both the official Grandstream support and the Grandstream forums and have, in almost a year, gotten nothing fixed. my user account on the grandstream forums is dead_again. go ahead, search me out.
Just have a look here: http://forums.grandstream.com/forum/109 to see what I'm talking about.
I have found Grandstream's support to be a joke at best.
I am to the point of throwing them in the trash. They are honestly nothing more than paperweights with screens. What good are all of those features if you have to turn them off to get the damn things to work?
Currently I am going between two different phones. I am looking at the Polycom IP450 and the Aastra 57i. Any suggestions?
I like the polycoms better, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $20 bucks and get 550's instead. They have more hard buttons so you're not cluttering up your softkeys.
Polycom's have a steep learning curve and their community support is lacking compared to Aastra.
The Aastra XML package is awesome and getting better with each release. Deploying them is so easy (no endpoint manager required). The phones are amazing and do not seem to have any boundaries in their possibilities. They have a good price point (cost / value ratio). You will get all sorts of "opinions" when you ask which is better. I support Aastra's because they support the community.
Yes the learning curve on the 450 and lower polycoms is steep simply because they are missing a lot of the hard buttons such as transfer. conference, etc. The 550, 650, and 670 have all of these on the phone as dedicated buttons so the learning curve is mitigated somewhat. Don't get me wrong, Aastra is a great brand. I use them at a Trixbox Pro site for a company that wanted to do things on the cheap, but I prefer Polycom because IMHO the phone build quality is better than the Aastras. Also, Polycom's firmware is catching up.
