One little niggling issue

First of all, great job Trixbox/Fonality! I know alot of folks may complain, but not me. Super product and great community support. This is what will push me to move to PBXtra CCE in the future. I am getting my feet wet with Asterisk through TB CE.

Anyway, our Hudlite won't update, or will loose it's ability to update. You have to go offline and back online to get a status of extensions or even the call you are on. Is this a know issue, or perhaps something I have misconfigured? This can happen in the office without any routing or VPN. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Kerry,

Kerry,
Here are the specifics:

Kernel Version 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL (Trixbox CE System Info Version: 2.5.2.23)
hudlite-server.i386 1.4.32-1
Hudlite client 2.1.1.1170

It states there is no update for the Hudlite package.

Thanks,

BTW, this is an instance of Trixbox running in a VMware server VM with 1G of memory assigned to it. In case that matters.

Yes. We only have about 10 people testing it right now. All features, and calls, are perfect. This is the only issue I can find. Is this caused by it being a VM? I thought I recalled others with similar issues who were not on a VM.

Asterisk version is 1.2.18

I am surprised you are

I am surprised you are getting good call quality and music on hold with a VM. It is NOT recommended to run it in a VM because Asterisk really likes to have a hardware timing source. This isn't a current open bug so I am not sure if VM has anything to do with it or not but I certainly would use a dedicated box and get a hardware timing device like a cheap FXO card.

Kerry,

Kerry,
I am puzzled as to why there would be a download for Trixbox VM if it isn't supposed to work correctly. I downloaded this VM from the Trixbox download page. Is this not supposed to be used? Today I have about 10 SIP extensions, an H323 Trunk connecting to the IP Office and 3 SIP trunks in this setup. We use it all the time, and have had outstanding success. Honestly this is the only problem that I have experienced. The CPU and Memory usage is always very very low. What is the purpose of the FXO card if you only use softphones?

I did read a few postings in the Trixbox forums, where you mentioned that Hudlite is known to have these issues and doesn't have any dev resources focused on resolving them now. Is that still par for the course?

The VMWare image is for testing purposes only. Even in a voip-only system you still need a hardware timing source (cheap FXO card) for music on hold and conference calls. I have said many many times that you should ALWAYS run trixbox on dedicated hardware.

Does a modem work as a satisfactory timing source ?

Got to say I used to have one in, but removed it last install and noticed no differance, MOH works flawlessly, just a home user though.

Fair enough, and I can't

Fair enough, and I can't disagree with you. But, having said that, is it likely that by me taking this route, would I realistically resolve the Hudlite issue? Seems that this is a common issue and happens to others with dedicated hardware too. I am not bashing any any way, I just wanted a realistic idea of whether or not this is likely to fix the refresh issue in Hudlite.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Kerry.

No, a basic modem is not

No, a basic modem is not good enough, but a cheap x100p clone card is. But use a good one from ZapMicro or x100p.com. This also will not work in a vmware session as the vmware session cannot access the hardware.

Will it fix your problem? I don't know, I haven't seen your problem and I don't see any other bug reports on that exact issue.

I have been looking into

I have been looking into this a bit more. From what I can tell the client isn't the problem as it continues to perform the Hud Server Ping/Pong. It looks like the Hud server stops sending updates. Looking at some network traces I see the client sending the Hud Server Ping packets, and the Hud server replying to the Pings. However even though the session is still live, the server never sends updates when clients sign on and off.

Is there any tweaks that I can make in the config files to change how the server sends the updates?
