Hudlite connects but won't dial

I have installed HUDlite on Trixbox 1.2.3/Free PBX 2.2.0 and current on patches. We have also run YUM to update the other modules on the box.
Other than the fact I am not on Trixbox 2.x.x, everything is updated to current.
Hudlite installs on PCs, connects to server, they can chat but no calling functions seem to work. I need the dialer and so I am I have read thru this forum and most of the solutions seem to involve installing Trixbox 2.x.
Is that the case or is it possible to make it work on Trixbox 1.2.3
