Can't Call Out

Hi, Joe. I had a similar problem. This should fix your problem in trixbox Pro (SE/EE/CCE):

First, go to your trixbox server admin panel at http://cp.trixbox.com and click Options...voip.

Under "Add VoIP Account", type a "Route Name" (I like to pre-pend the name with IN or OUT, to differentiate the SIP trunks, if you use different service providers), select a Provider and type the outbound Server's IP address. Bandwidth.com does not require a username or password. Click the Advanced button to fill in additional details.

Here is an example which works for Bandwidth.com:

Showing 2 VoIP Accounts
Name: INbandwidth
Provider: bandwidth
Direction: in
Type: SIP
Host: 216.82.224.111
Status N/A

Name: OUTbandwidth
Provider: bandwidth
Direction: out
Type: SIP
Host: 216.82.224.111
Status N/A

In the "Advanced" section, the only fields you need to fill out are
Direction: out
Codec 1: ulaw (btw, this is g711u)
Codec 2: g729 (this second codec is a backup, used if the caller doesn't use ulaw)
(erase whatever is in the Register String)
Direction: out - (peer)
TOS: reliability
Authentication: plaintext (since you're not sending a password, there's nothing to hide)
Transfer: no
Reinvite: yes
NAT: yes (depends on whether your router has this enabled)
Insecure: very
DTF Mode: rfc2833
Click "Add VoIP Account" button. Now, you should see this outbound account in the "Showing # VoIP Accounts".

Then, click Options...dial plan.
Click on each of the "Showing # Dial Plan Entries" you plan on using (i.e. click the "Dial String")
For the Route, select your outbound call plan (mine is labelled "VoIP: OUTbandwidth.com")
For Strip Digits, leave the default (1)
For Prepend, type "+". This will add a + to all outbound calls.
Click "Update Dial Plan"
Now, you can update the other Dial Strings you think you'll need.

I'm not certain that using "+" alone is required. In NYC, you still need to dial the area code, even if you're calling locally, so I believe that prepending with 1212+ would be useful for the local dial string. I think the "+" is an old, written form of phone numbers (a phone number convention). Ex: +12125551212. Not sure if there is any harm in prepending all numbers with "+".
