Polycom 3.0.1 firmware available in package manager

The latest Polycom phone firmware is now in the package manager. It works well with the trixbox endpoint manager. Install the rpm and run setup-polycom from command line. If you are having problem installing this rpm from the package manager you can install it from command line.

rpm -i --force firmware-polycom-3.0.1-2.noarch.rpm

To get your phone updated make sure it is using the trixbox tftp server. If it's a new phone do the following.

1. reboot the phone
2. press setup and enter password (456)
3. select "Server Menu"
4. change server type to "Trivial FTP"
5. change "Server Address" to the ip address of your trixbox
6. press exit twice and select "Save & reboot"

Your phone well reboot a few times to load the Boot ROM and firmware.

When it's done go into the endpoint manager and search for new phones.
Select your phone and pick an extension from the list.
reboot your phone and start making calls!

Does this make changes to your sip.cfg file.
I updated and now when i boot up my phones, it's not setting the time anymore.
It flashes sun, Dec 31 7:31p

The new icons show up and they look nice.
It also fixed the overlap of the phone icon and extension on the ip650. Nice job.
The boot logs are confusing the heck out of me, showing me different date/time.....
Maybe i messed up on the new firmware download somehow... any help is much appreciated.
NOTE: I also tried formatting the phone and provisioning again with the same results. Also note that this problem only came up after i rebooted the phone a second time after installing the new firmware.

I was looking in the wrong places.
After stepping back and thinking about it. I forgot to check to see if my ntp deamon was running. Sure enough it wasn't. Started ntpd and everything works without needing a phone reboot. Thank you.

config that endpoint manager creates - but, you can edit the mac.cfg and specify the older sip_212.ld and sip_212.cfg to load for the older phones - kind of a pain, but better than throwing away the phone.

picture logo

After I installed new firmware, sip.cfg, my custom logo picture file replaced, all XML files from contact folder was gone. Luckily I had a backup.
After returning back sip, picture and contacts, picture logo now "mixed" with Polycom logo, became kind of semi-transparent. Can anyone tell how to change it back to normal?

Great, thanks guys, re-boot is so much faster. I do have a strange one which is no biggie but after reboot, x100 (no others) light new message light even though no new messages are in that mailbox. I have to leave a new message and clear it in order for MWI to turn off. Anyone else notice this? It's most likely something funky my server is doing but I'm curious.

I bought my first polycom IP550. I first tried to setup using web interface. I am having a real hard time and ready to toss this back to my distributor. I went through all the above and upgraded the firmware and bootloader. I see the trixbox logo on the screen. I can see the phone in the endpoint manager and it reflects the entries I put in in the webpage. The clock is GMT not -5 like I told it. The extensions do not register and only accept 3 digits from the dialplan which should be any combo. What am I doing wrong.

You need to edit 2 files in tftpboot folder. Adjust time in server.cfg by default it is 18000 I believe. For example, I'm on West coast I set mine to 28750, play with that. The other is sip.cfg, adjust dialplan to your needs, example here:

digitmap dialplan.digitmap="xxxT|*xxxT|*xT|*xxT|**xxT|*xxxT|*T|*xxxxT|**xxxT|*xxxxxT|xxx*T|
dialplan.digitmap.timeOut="3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3|3"/>

Notice different dialing patterns, xxxT| is my 3 digit extensions and so on. Make sure you include 3| for each pattern you add. Hope this is clear.

Thank you Chris- I made changes in those files but it nothing. Also I still do not know why I cannot register any lines to the server. I have never had so much trouble on a sip phone and I have used all the types out there.

How many of the phones have this issue with the NTP? Are you using a boot server? If not you should "Reset Local Config" in the advanced phone UI menu. This will remove any override settings from the web or phone UI. Chances are that you have a setting somewhere you do not see. If you are using a bootserver, format the file system and also (at the same time) remove the MAC-phone.cfg file from the server.

Thanks so far. I have been building and installing these systems since A@H first release. I have been using Linksys, Aastra, Grandstream, and various ata adapters with no problems. I have never come across this problem. I bought my fist IP 550 last week to test so I can add them to my sales. I am using both 2.2.x and 2.6.x servers. This phone came as firmware 2.1.2 and I tried using the webpage to program it. I was able to add all the info but it would not register to the server nor would the time correctly setup. It did though see the NTP server and give me a 5 hour difference. The extensions would not work nor would the phone let me dial past 3 digits before I get Allison's recording telling me the number is not in service. I followed the firmware upgrade in this thread and setup the TFTP server from the endpoint manager. Still nothing? I can't seem to get it to work at all. I don't know what else to do?

Sounds like you have some connectivity if you hear Alisons prompt. What happens if you just dial (without picking up handset or speaker) your extension number and send? I have Polycom 501s at my office so I can't honestly say what the difference is from 550s but it should be pretty close if not the same. Does TB recognize this phone in endpoint manager? Did you run setup-polycom? This phone is on same LAN correct? On your phone, DHCP menu do you have boot server set to Option 66 (not sure if this matters)? In server menu is your server type set to Trivial FTP? Also, for starters try (if not set) to set everything to point to local address of your box and not your public IP. In tftpboot folder do you see MAC of your Poly?

IMO Polys are not the easiest to provision, my first one took my a while to register, after that you will be able to do this in your sleep. Let me know how it goes, if you are still having problems I will try to dig a little deeper.

I have 4 IP500s and have never gotten then to usable outside the network over NAT. I have (3) 480i CTs and 10 GXP2000s (going to GXP2010s and 2020s) and have never had a problem with them (great Phones), I have read here that the IP500's did not support NAT and since the new Firmware will not work with IP500, I was thinking of picking one up for testing.
I would put Polycom second only to Aastra as I think Aastra is more willing to listen to it's reseller and customers as to what they need and want.

Thank you for all the help. I actually spent almost all night on this phone. I was able to get it to actually work. I did what you said. I cleared all the info from the phone and formatted the file system. I went into the tftpboot directory and scrutinized all of the files. I rewrote the dial plans by replacing one type at a time then combined them into one string. I noticed though that the endpoint manager only lets me setup one line per phone with that line on line 1&2 and then I go to the webpage to setup the other 3 lines. Is there a way to change the endpoint manager to apply all 4 lines (no urgency).
The only problem I am left with is turning off the missed call indicator and STILL the clock shows 5 hours off of eastern time. Like it is GMT. My file is set for -18000 which is right but I still don't get that.

Time not showing correctly is a problem with your DHCP scope

overriding the SNTP settings - Linksys routers are a real pain in this respect. Couple of options here:

1) Let the TB do DHCP - it is a VERY low intensity service and the TB has a pretty decent DHCP server that will take you all of ten minutes to get going:

a) setup-dhcp
b) nano -w /etc/dhcpd.conf and put in the specifics.

You will need to disable the current DHCP server on your network if you go this route because you can only have ONE DHCP server per network segment.

2) edit /tftpboot/sip.cfg and look for the line that has sntp at the beginning and make the following changes:

a) tcpIpApp.sntp.address="xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" - the IP address of your TB.
b) tcpIpApp.sntp.address.overrideDHCP="1" - Use this setting in preference to DHCP
c) tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset="-25200" - Your Time Zone.
d) tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset.overrideDHCP="1" - Use me instead.

With either option, reboot the phone to get it to pick up the changes.

Search /tftpboot/sip.cfg for the following string:

feature.8.enabled="1"

and change it to:

feature.8.enabled="0"

Feature 8 is Call List - Missed. As always. reboot to get the phone to pick up the changes.

Also, as you go forward, set up a sip.cfg with all the tweaks you like, then when you are installing a new box, just copy the sip.cfg over the the new boxes /tftpboot folder and change the relavent IP addresses to match the new box, and you are cooking!

What do you consider fast? I just installed 3.01 on a Polycom 650 and it takes about 4 minutes to boot. It seems considerably longer than the previous firmware I had on here (2.0.x).

Weird response dilaing extension 700

When I dial extension 700 which is a registered and functional SIP extension I get prompted by the trixbox lady saying "701" then MOH for a while then the phone rings as if it was calling itself. This happens on all Polycom 650 phones registered to trixbox 2.6.7. It seems that there's a problem with th dial patterns with the new firmware but not sure what it is. Any ideas?

Hi Greg, I would also like to turn off the "Missed Calls" feature on my Polycoms but I don't want to edit my sip.cfg. I've got company.cfg which I've created and I've already modified my dialplan so I know it is up and running. My question is this... I found the line in sip.cfg that I need to copy and modify in company.cfg Do I need to copy all 19 features or can I just put feature.8 into my company.cfg?

This file should contain only modifications from the default sip.cfg file. This is a good idea for persistence reasons, because sip.cfg gets overwritten on updates.

I always just tweak sip.cfg the way I like it, and then upload it to my FTP server. Then, when I am prepping a box, I install the firmware, do a setup-polycom, and then just copy the file down to the box and replace the IP in the file for the microbrowser with the IP of the box I am working on. Works for me, but YMMV.

Dial plan problems with new firmware

Although extensions have dtmfmode=inband the new firmware is causing several DTMF problem. Users report that dialing remote IVR options is not working. Is the new firmware's dialplan compatible with trixbox 2.6.7?

I have changed the SERVER TYPE to TRIVIAL FTP and set the SERVER Ip to my TB PRO, it rebooted and updated the BOOTROM...then after initializing it gave an ERROR, APPLICATION IS NOT PRESENT. Am I missing any configuration??

Problem with POLYCOM Soundpoint IP4000

I had several reboots and attempts to upgrade firmware and finally I was able to come out of the continuous reboot loop and access the webgui. With several attempts on the webgui settings, (each time it reboots again), I was able to register the IP4000 with trixbox 2.4
But I am having DTMF issues. I cannot enter pin numbers in a remote IVR or Bank or Conference server. Anything abobe 3 digits, it sometimes randomly passes the same digit twice.

The extenstion that the IP4000 is a default SIP extension with RFC2833. The call is handled like this:

SOundpointIP4000 --> Trixbox 2.4 ---> Sangoma Card (FXO) ---> Analog Line ---> Remote IVR

Specially going over on an analog line I never had DTMF issues. Same conference room we had to hookup an Aastra9133i as a backup and using it without any problem at all.

Any Polycom support here?

501 dialplan

After quite a bit of fussing and then finally finding this page I've got my 501s provisioning nicely. They can accept incoming calls from internal and zaptel trunks. Yay!

However, the 501 cannot dial another (3 digit) extension or outside. I get the "Your call cannot completed as dialed" prompt.

Is the provisioned dialplan not correct for the 501?

Looking at your digit map, I would guess you have extensions beginning with a 1?

To do that, you need to change

I just thought I'd follow up with what worked for me for a digitmap on the 501s.

It's working for internal 1** extensions, local 7 and 10 digit dialing as well as Long Distance. Dialing a 9 for an outside line.
