Trixbox 2.2.12 + Endpoint Manager + Polycom 301

I'm attempting to provision several polycom 301s using endpoint manager in trixbox CE v2.2.12. I'm passing the tftp server info via DHCP. The firmware I'm using is 3.0.1-2. I've run setup-polycom.

My customer indicates that these phones work out of the box as long as endpoint mananger and dhcp are properly configured. However, I have not been able to get the phones to download the firmware or provision the extensions without first going through the phone menus and manually changing the server type setting from FTP to TFTP and entering the server IP address. Is this how this is supposed to work or can these phones be made to get their firmware without specifying this information manually (IE. via DHCP)? Any help would be appreciated. Is my customer mistaken that these phones can get their firmware via tftp without any changes the phone?

Thanks,

Mike Mariaskin

I don't know of any way to

I don't know of any way to provision tftp vs ftp - i've always had to at least set that setting from the phone itself.

However you shouldn't need to enter in the IP address on every phone. If you configure your DHCP server with option 150 to point to the IP address of the TFTP server then you should be good. (or option 66 if using FTP)

Thanks for your reply

From what I have found, ftp is indeed the default. Although my customer claims that they used tftp out of the box at their other locations, it appears that they actually use ftp. In any case, I appreciate you getting back to me.

Actually

Yes the phones do use FTP out of the box, but if you give a URL string to the phone in option 66, the phone will use that protocol and not what is set in the menu. The phone is designed to be a sort-of plug and play using DHCP. And the option 150 mentioned above is 150 on some models and 160 on others.

So if your option 66 in DHCP gave http://example.com/polycom/ the phone would use the http protocol (not FTP) and contact the server directory listed. This works for TFTP, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS
