Just noticed that there has been another release of firmware on the betatest site, this one seems to be 1.1.4.22 though there are no release notes posted with it yet.

http://www.grandstream.com/BETATEST

I think I'll wait a while before giving it a spin. Anyone have the release notes for this bad boy yet?

First Impressions - Following Upgrade to 1.1.4.22

I spent several hours on three, recently-upgraded GXP2000s. Based on this preliminary test, the RECEIVED audio is vastly improved compared with 1.1.4.18. I haven't yet had the opportunity to be on the distant end (to evaluate the TRANSMITTED audio) but my preliminary impression is:

Wow!

I also used the speakerphone for about an hour - and found it to be quite useful. The only minor, potential negative was observed by the party at the distant end of the phone when I was using the speakerphone. Notably, this person is known to have "golden ears" and did NOT know I was using beta firmware. Therefore, it's my belief that he was a good and unbiased test subject.

On a number of occasions he said, "Hello? Hello?" shortly after he began speaking. This occurred when the speakerphone (which now appears quasi-half-duplex) switched to "listen" mode and the volume of my room's ambient sounds quickly dropped in volume (from his perspective).

Even with this minor negative observation, this version of the speakerphone seems vastly improved over the prior (1.1.4.18) version. I recognize that programming decisions regarding the operation of the audio circuitry involve a nearly-infinite number of trade-offs and this may very well be as good as it's going to get (which is pretty darned good). However, if it were me, based entirely on yesterday's preliminary test, I might consider a very slight reduction of the speakerphone's "off" attenuation.

Grandstream: Thanks much for 1.1.4.22. I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.

Seems better

It fixes the big problem (for my users at least) where RTP was started prematurely resulting in a stuttering audio feed.

Still not 100% fixing all the problems, but every release quiets the horde a little more.

Drops line

I have had two calls today just drop in the middle of a connection (since doing the 22 update) they were on a G729 connection in house (local net) so I'm fairly sure it's a phone issue. The calling phone still showed it was on the call but the receive end had dropped.

Transfer issue - Feedback wanted

Anybody who installed 1.1.4.22, can you please try a simple transfer test, and post the results?

Test is as follows (or see http://www.trixbox.org/forums/vendor-moderated-forums/grandstream... ), using three GXP2000 named A, B and C:

A calls B
B answers and performs the attended transfer *as per Grandstream manual* (i.e., pick an unused line, dial C, talk with C then press TRNF and hang up).
A now talks with C, but B remains busy for all the time A is talking to C (check on the FOP and also by calling B--either from another extension or from an external line)

Please post the results, firmware (let's keep it on 1.1.4.22, possibly) and Trixbox/Asterisk version.

Can't understand if this is a GS issue or a trixbox issue, any help is very much appreciated!

Hi biquad

Hi biquad

I have just tested this on 3 gxp 2000 (V2.0) and did not get this problem
All on 1.1.4.22

to clarify:
A called B
B Answers line1 presses line2 and calls C
A currently on hold - hears music,
Line1 flashing on B
B presses TRNF then Line1
A now talking to C
B =available for other calls
1.1.4.22

I did it 4- 5 times, tried different phone order , ABC BAC, CBA

Hope this helps

I have had .22 on several phones most of this week and not noticed problems, haven't exactly been stress testing it tho.

Only think I notice is custom XML screen has contrast inverted (using the trixbox one thats here abouts)

Calls Dropped

I also just received a complaint from a user who I just upgraded to this firmware that when receiving calls they drop after less than a minute. Outbound calling seems to be ok. The only thing that changed was the firmware. Its not consistent though because when I called in the call didn't drop. I will try to figure out what the issue is but I suspect that it is something to do with the new firmware.

I will say that the audio quality is greatly improved in this version and I am very appreciative of that.

Inverted XML Screen

Greg101,

In reference to the inverted XML screen (my contribution) for trixbox, it seems that Grandstream has actually FIXED the inversion problem. I had to invert my bitmap to get it to display correctly on the old phone. Anyone who wants the bitmap to encode as they see fit, just PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send the .bmp file.

another test

hello greg

greg, can you try another test? We have a problem with call remaining on hold after trying little variation of attended transfer (on 1.1.4.18).
it goes like this:
A calls B
B answers Line1
B presses Line2, calls C
A is on hold, C answers
B presses Line1, talks to A
B presses TRNF then Line2

A should now talk to the C, but A drops the line, while C is stuck on hold

thanks

Hi alesz, I tried it and did

Hi alesz,
I tried it and did not get the problem (for what it is worth) - the phone worked. (3 on .22)

Took me a sec to see your variation, -
(after B announces the caller to the destination, b then has a quick chat with A before completing the transfer.)

I did have one of my .22 lock up and freeze on me mid call, (FOP showed call still connected). Had to power cycle the phone to unfreeze, curiously occurred after a call duration of 599 seconds (according to CDR) 9minutes 59 seconds. Subsequently had another, longer call without problems. - just thought I would mention that

hello, works ok

Hello,

thank you for your test. Today i had the opportunity to test it myself and it was working every time on .18 & .22 fw. For now, but I only tried it about 10 times. It might still happen with a large volume of calls. Staying at .22 since there are no apparent drawbacks from .18.

Thanks again, ales

I am surprised by the noticeable absence of Grandstream support

This thread has been going on for a while but I haven't seen any response/comments from the good Grandstream folks.

I have a GXP2000 with older firmware and I am afraid to upgrade.

Me too

I have several GXP 2000 running 1.1.1.4 - over a year old. It has some strange issues but it's stable. I want to upgrade but it seems like the firmware often gets released before it's ready - viz 1.1.4.20, I read all about how bad that one is. Have many people made the jump to 1.1.4.22 and if so, can I still use my phone? Will it work? Or is there another decent firmware image out there I should try?

1.1.4.22 - Possible Lockups

After using 1.1.4.22 since its release, I can say that this firmware is greatly improved over 1.1.4.18.

However, I am still seeing intermittent (twice in as many weeks) lockups on one GXP2000 that had been perfectly reliable running 1.1.1.4. Oddly, only one of our three phones ever "froze" (requiring a cold reboot / power cycle to restore operation) with 1.1.4.18. The same phone is now locking up under 1.1.4.22 (I never installed 1.1.4.20). The phone that's locking up is the newest hardware of the three and is very seldom used. For this reason, it seems as though this lockup symptom may somehow be related to hardware or the usage (or lack thereof) pattern.

I'm hoping this info is helpful.

2nd the lockups

Make sure you post any of your problems with your firmware at voip-info.org on the GXP2000 page. http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/GXP-2000

It appears that Grandstream Tech support pays attention to notes there. As for the lack of Grandstream support, why is anyone surprised? Have you ever called their technical support? You are lucky to get them once out of the 100 times you call.

I always have problems getting through their phone system, they must be using their most recent firmware! :)

As for the lockups with 22. We've had one that required a cold boot in about a 2 week period. As for useage, I would say this phone probably gets about 50-60 calls a day and only had the lockup once. Compared to all the problems that we had with 4.18, I can deal with 1 lockup in 2 weeks. However, even with firmware 4.22 my GXP-2000 doesn't even come close to the quality of my Aastra.

Sorry, I'm so frustrated with Grandstream, I simply have to mention that in the 1.5 months now since I got my Aastra, not a single reboot was required, not a single lockup, and not a single dropped call.

LOVE IT!

Freeze on 1.1.4.22 and burnout of display;-)

Well, got twice a lookup,
the first time about one hour after flashing one of the 12 one crashed badly, after powercycling it shows only a A12007 on the display.. after a second powercycle it was nearly a minute completely death, and booted then as usual.
Sound on ILBC and GSM is badly brocken on high RX level, producing speakerkilling noise on the peaks, this on all 12 set's. but without that the sound is much better than before.
Backlight going off while talking. but stays on when a missed call displayed.
2 phones stayed with Backlight on for 2 month, the brigthness decreased dramaticaly to maybe 10% on both phones. is there anything known what to do with outburnt backlights except throwing the phones ? ;-)

Cheers ...

Call transfer

Can someone explain me what does this mean? What's new here?
Added support for early attended transfer (A talk to B, A put B on hold and call C, while
C is running A transfer to B)

want to experiment with 1.1.4.22

Hi, I am using the firmware 1.1.3.2 on my GXP2000 and I am not satisfied with the voice quality on PCMA. I'd like to test 1.1.4.22. Could me anybody tell if it is possible to downgrade from 1.1.4.22 to 1.1.4.18 if needed? Is it possible to use Czech menu etc in 1.1.4.22? I wasn't able to find the language pack at the Grandstream BETA page.
Many thanks

1.1.4.22 audio issues

I just tested 1.1.4.22 and had bad echo issues on speakerphone (for remote party). They could hear their own voice slapping back at them. It was very consistent too...whether the remote party was a cell phone or a local extension.

I also had an annoying issue where when I would speak it would mute the remote party when talking on the handset, much like it would normally do on speakerphone. This is unusual behavior for a handset.

I reverted back to 1.1.4.18 and the issues are gone. Staying here too!
